I would put the 3 into a 2 and try it, i did this last night and it worked IIRC the figures.

If it were engine/airbag related then I totally agree. But in this case safety isn't an issue.

I've given all the looms a tug,and replugged them back in, just have to wait till Swmbo to sit in the seat to test

There is a fairly common problem with the underseat wiring on Golf's and Octavia's. My early Octy had some wires replaced.

Disconnect the 2 pin plug under plastic cover under seat

+1, this worked for me too.  The wee box under each seat, just pull the plug.  This was the advice VW gave me and it works with not problems with MOT and airbags etc.  All these codes etc seem a bit too complicated.
