« on: June 03, 2012, 08:45:03 am »
Hi Everyone little help needed please.
I have been looking on here a while to get info on buying and have put a deposit on a red ed 30 5dr manual with 46,000 miles reg is GV 07 LTA, doe's anyone know this car?
What should i be looking for specifically on this car .
What are the exact differances between standard gti and ed 30.
Oh and it s up for £12,995 is that price right considering its a very very clean car.
Thanks in advance.

Is that from a dealer or private? Whats the spec like? Seems a little steep if private...
(spec dependant)

The Ed30 has a detuned S3 engine bascially so has a bigger turbo, stronger internals and more tuning capability, a simple remap with give you 280-290bhp... suspension/brakes all the same... Lots of posts about it, the search button is the best bet.

Nothing really too much to look out for, just normally things, rattles and bangs, smoke... give it a good test drive, should come on boost strong... rust around front arches...

Thanks for reply.
Yes from a dealer ,  vw took it as px and moved it on to dealer ,think it is demo plus i owner.
Not sure what spec but it has heated seats some form of info in the display on dash did'nt fiddle too much just scrolled through menu.
Its all colour coded and has tinted glass i would have thought that was all standad stuff really.

Seems very steep - i traded mine in a few months ago (2007, manual 60k, mint) and got £9k - most garages were offering £7.5k as p/x  :surprised:

Price seems high, for that premium I'd be expecting a high spec such as xenons, Nav, highline, DSG, 6 disc changer, winter and lux packs too. U made the right colour choice. Red is the fastest colour :signLOL:

Bought my 2008 3rd Tornado Red ED30 manual (stock) with 51k on the clock 5 months ago, FVWSH for £11,995 from a VW main dealer with a bit of haggling.

Mind you since then i needed to change 4 tyres, pads, cambelt, water pump, Diverter valve. Also changed PCV, Fuel Filter and coil packs and front discs. Not including modding spent £1500 extra to make sure everything is nice and tight.

Make sure cambelt/water pump has been done and has had a recent MAJOR service not just an oil change service otherwise your looking at £600+ within  the next 6 months.

Prices were dropping when I bought mine, think the one your looking at is priced high but as said that depends on spec ie xenons, FVWSH etc, recent cambelt change etc.

Don't expect to see much more than 24 - 30 mpg round town and 36+ mpg on motorways and if you really use the load pedal, 17 mpg.

Stage 1 map and that alone you will be seeing around 280bhp, add a TBE and induction kit then around 300bhp and so on.

Maybe a little bit pricey.

The heated seats are standard on Edition 30s as are the colour coded bumpers. If it has the rear privacy glass that would have been an option.

To give you an idea of what you should expect I paid 12.5k for mine back in February and it was from a VW dealer so came with a year's warranty.

- 07 Tornado Red 5DR with 36k.
- DSG
- Xenons
- Highline Computer
- Multi Function Steering Wheel
- iPod connection
- Rear Parking Sensors
- Dipping Reverse Mirror
- Front Armrest
- Aftermarket Parrot Bluetooth Kit

Really you want to maybe find a car with as many options on it as you can and with as low a mileage as you can for that money. Otherwise I'd be asking the dealer to drop that price a good bit.

They should be able to tell you what options the car had fitted from the factory.

Good luck with it

For that money, i would want to make sure that the cambelt and waterpump had been done and a recent full service. If from a VW maindealer, i would want a full all component 12mth warranty.

I bought a silver 5dr DSG ED30, 07, 42k, FVWSH, highline, xenons, armrest, cambelt/pump & coilpack had already been done, also two new tyres (albeit budget tyres) with full service and 12mth warranty for less than the one your looking at in January.

If it gets serviced, ensure that longlife oil is used and its put on the time & distnace service intervals.
