No mate, I haven't. Do you think its worth it? Only problem is, the nearest different dealer is in Taunton I think. I might have agreed to the work, but I can get the whole job done less than VW quoted for the 50% !

Hi mate. Definitely recommend going elsewhere or giving a quick call. You should not be having to pay, as has been said many times before on here. It's a known defect. Would be interested to know what percentage of mk5s have had the repair. The repair was well above four figures on the job sheet.  :surprised:

The problem down here in Cornwall is that all the VW dealerships are part of the same group, I think even Exeter is. I'm assuming that the group policy will be the same across all dealerships!?

Update on my case.

Had a call from VW Customer Services this morning. They have spoken to the dealership and "updated them on VW policies and procedures" and will be repairing both front wings under goodwill. Only slight downside is apparently they don't have any courtesy cars so i'd either have to pay to rent one off them or do without.....will try my hand when they call as i might get the cambelt and water pump done at the same time!

Overall though, VW Customer Services have come through and restored my faith! Worth a call to them if you get knocked back initially!!

Great result.  I'm guessing with all the bad press about VW at the moment, they are desperate to keep existing customers happy!

I don't think the above is true! Would not budge from 50% for me despite there being rot appearing in the drivers door pillar (I'm unsure of the term  but B pillar rings a bell?) which will undoubtedly become a safety concern in the future when something that is considered structural is rotting away. Never will I buy another VW.

Took my golf over to citygate vw body shop in Amersham on Monday afternoon, had a call back yesterday to say they will be replacing the wing and giving us a courtesy car while it's being done (which I didn't even ask for).

Only thing they said was Vw don't allow to blend the wing into the door, so I'm looking at £160+vat for it to be blended in and a new drivers door moulding.

Hey Chris. Guessing you're just having the one wing replaced and blended? Is there any sign at all on the other? for me the one was ok from viewing outside, only when you looked under could you see the rust.

Yeah just the drivers side, it's hardly noticeable tbh and I only followed up on it because of this thread.

Touch wood passenger one seems fine.

Just after some opinion, will i need any blending on a steel grey GTI? Obviously i was told blending isn't included but not sure one whether i need it doing or not? I always thought it was more important on brighter colours?

Personally I would want it blended.

While the cars there and paints in the gun it's worth doing, that my opinion anyway.

I believe metallic is harder to match due to the pattern. Is it a dealer body shop or one they outsource to?

When I had mine done this year at VW, they matched using a tool rather than simply on the paint code alone. I didn't have it blended and looks fine in normal and under orange light. If anything it now bugs me the standard rear bumper is different to the rear quarter.

Does anyone know if the lump below on the sill is part of the bodywork of the car?... It was there before and after the repair of the rust on the sills? The rust was in front of the lump, where the wing meetings the sill. (excuse the dust on the pictures)

@Ditto It's being done at an outsourced bodyshop, albeit one with a good local reputation.

Going to speak to them when I drop it off, i'm thinking of having a few other bits done at the same time (some marks etc on bonnet and front bumper so might get them done too) so would make sense to blend in I guess.

Took my Jetta to local VW stealer as both my front wings have a slight blistering to the paint. They refused to look at them as they said ive run the car too low and damaged the paint myself............. Options???
