Has anyone got a any pictures of the amount of rust we are talking about here as mine is just starting to rust.

Have a 06 plate golf mk5.

And wondering if I have a case for taking it to the vw dealership?

Thanks

Any amount of rust is too much rust and just the beginning.  Get it to the dealer

My front left arch has some very slight bubbles forming on it  :scared:

It's a 05 Mk5 GTi Golf..heard this was common and was covered under the paint warranty if this is correct?

Just wondering if i will be covered if i take it to my local VW dealership?

Thanks Guys

....This was mine (BEFORE repair!) on 05-plate Mk5 GTI with nearly 100k miles:

Both my wings were repaired free of charge and all done within a few days (also with free VW Polo courtesy car).

RedRobin,

I believe you have a copy of the service bulletin that details the front panels, could i be cheeky and ask if you mind emailing me a copy to Phil.mcbain@gmail.com as i am trying to build a case against them.

Would really appreciate it

Corrosion warranty is 12 years, but they call these repairs good will gestures as they don't come under the warranty!

There's no reason why it wouldn't be covered as long as there's no damage in the area. My 05 got new wings and I only had very slight bubbles starting to show.

I've just noticed that both my front wings now have rust. Without having read any of this thread, can someone tell me if they paint the while wing - or just repair the said area's?

Also, would VW give me a courtesy car, as I suspect this will take a couple of days.

They replace the whole wing, not repair. You should be able to get a loan car, although some places can be mean and charge for it.

Not strictly true. As per the guidelines they have to try and repair it 1st and if that proves unsuccessful then it will be a new wing. Basically they sand it back, and it either falls apart or they do it slightly to hard to get this result and then apply for new wings/fit new wings as per VW guidelines.

....Great news!  :happy2:

That bulletin PDF is more as backup if a dealer gets funny about it. It also helps you to understand the issue and be more convincing about your case.

Well that's not what happened with me! I only had the very beginnings of rust, just a few tiny bubbles on each wing. They put new wings straight on with no attempt to repair. They said there was no point repairing as it would only come back again and that the new wings were modified and would cure the problem.
