Went to have mine checked out today, the technitian said the paint was origianal and they will do something about it but in his opinion because theyve been left to get so bad and nothing has been done about it sooner they might only pay a percentage towards it. Ive only had the car a couple of months! Obviously if it was done sooner a re-spray would of sorted it but now its 2 new wings and a respray. any thoughts on this? and how long does it normally take untill i hear back from them? thanks

Guys having  a similar issue myself, car is starting between the 1/4 panel and the bumper on both sides.

Emailed VW and they said sure take it to our local garage for inspection, which we did.

Warranty guy inspected it and said yep def an issue there but he wouldnt submit a claim as it had not yet broken through the paint?!?!?!

Surely thats totally wrong!? Theres an obvious issue but there going to wait till its nearly rotten before fixing????

Anyone any similar issues? also could someone fire me the PDF? Jasoncameron@hotmail.co.uk cheers!

I'm building up to mine, but just noticed the following, have bubbles on the

Front wings
Rear badge
Sills
By petrol flat
And also bottom corners on the skirts where the factory fitted mud flaps are

Clearly there are issues, do I have to just accept all this? Or has anyone had bigger success than just the arches?

I had my wings replaced free of charge with no problem. However when I went back again with rust under the rear badge they only offered part payment on that. I had to put up a fight, but I got that done for free in the end as well.

Hi Guys,

Thought I'd keep you informed of things as it makes the forum a valuable resource.

I went along to morden VW (southwest london) met a lovely gentleman. He took a gauge to my car and acknowledge the problem on the cars. He's a mark 5 GTI  owner.  He said that the problem affects mainly diesel models!  I pointed out that its still the same model car and he agreed.  He was well aware of the nature of problem and the fact that it was a manufacturing defect caused by the lining.

He then took a paint depth gauge to my car and the reading came above two hundred and he said that may make warranty work a little tricky as the car has been resprayed.  My heart sank.  Every other panel on the car was straight.  He was honest enough to say that it doesnt change the nature of the problem.

He told me they don't have a paint shop and I would have to go along to guilford to get it sorted as they'd give me a hire car and would stop them from being the piggy in the middle as they have a paint shop.  There is no guarantee that they will be willing to consider my warranty claim.  He told me not to let them know we had spoken and come back to him if there where any problems....

Guys what do you think are my chances of success?  Any pointers would be greatfully appreciated!

Anyone had any experience with Lookers Teesside?  One arch is getting a bit bubbly so going to give them a ring.

I had rusting sills on my GTI a couple of years ago, which VW paid out in full to repair. However everyone who has made claims recently only seems to be offered 50% at best. Their 'good will' doesn't seem to stretch as far as it used to do - perhaps all these warranty claims are starting to hurt their profit margins!

At the risk of sounding dumb, I was under the impression you'd have to take the car to the dealer it was bought from regarding work, with them being franchised surely no other garage is going to want to pay out for a vehicle they initially never made money on?  :ashamed:
