I've recently tried to book an appointment to see someone at my local dealer about the sills on my Eddy.

No call back surprise surprise!

How are people approaching the dealers on this issue? Are you contacting a friendly contact that you may have or are people just turning up and asking for a body quote and then saying this should be being done under the 12 year corrosion warranty?

Not happy that my 2007 car has rust spiders! My 20 year + old Mk1 GTI was no worse than my current car!

^^^^  I just turned up at the dealer and asked for someone to look at it. Depends on dealer though, you may have to make an appointment. This can't be claimed for with the rust warranty though, its not covered by that. If they do it free it will be called a "goodwill gesture".

having mine picked up next week for the wings doing free of charge, has a friend at vw who managed to get me sorted luckily

Sorry to this, but can I just ask VW to inspect my car and get them to decide whether to replace the wing or do I need to go in armed with pictures and visible corrosion?

it has to be inspected anyway so best off just driving in but they may refer you to another garage depending on what departments they have dude

Where exactly am I looking for rust? I know it can be anywhere, but where is it most common?

Title of the thread is a dead give away.... "Front wing rust warranty success!!"

Do you have rust on your front wings? If so go to a VW dealer. They will take pictures and take paint depth readings to make sure the wings have not been painted. VWHQ will then offer you 50% contribution and thats where your struggle begins.

Painting aside, how difficult is it to fit new front wings to the mk5 Golf? Reason I ask is because I was thinking of going for carbon fibre parts instead.
