and so my story continues......I visited the VW dealer, had my paint depth measured and was quoted over £1000 to have the rust bubbles sorted on my rear driver side quarter panel & sills. This they explained was including a 50% good will gesture from VW. At this point I had only owned the car for two weeks, not having spotted the rust bubbles when I originally viewed the car.
Not happy, I contacted VW executive management in London and explained the situation. They were most surprised that a VW dealer had actually sold me a car with rust on it in the first place so they said they would take it up with the dealer and phone me the following day.
As they said, they called the next day, went through my buying process / who did I deal with / what did he / she say? etc and again said they would speak to the dealer. That same afternoon I got a call from the VW dealer general manager asking me to bring my car back for an inspection which I did the next day. He had a look at it and I pointed out all the flaws I had spotted then said he would call me the next day. He called the next day offering to fix it for free and that he was arranging a courtesy car for me. Thank you Volkswagen.
