Well I've just got off the phone with pullman vw in Durham where after he made it pretty clear that as I'm the 4th owner of my 07 edition 30 that vw might not honour the 10 year warranty how I don't know but I've been given a date to get it inspected wait for it .................... 9th March 2016....... I'm going to try lookers in Middlesbrough

They're going to completely replace the front wings and sills. They said there is no point "patching up" as all it does is delay the problem.

No problems at all.  I took it in and they inspected on the spot - no booking needed.

James

They're turned down doing the tailgate rust again - damn.

Also, I've told them about a bubble I found on the rear quarter panel (between drivers door and rear wheel on the drivers side) and they've said they'll "probably decline this as its not a common problem".  Strange.  Its 100% a bubble coming from the inside out and as far as I can see 100% a warranty claim.

I'll keep you updated.  Loving this little up! courtesy car at the moment too tbh.  No power at all but a strange, quirky, cheeky charm lol

I have rust building on both wheel arches in the exact same place so I took it into VW in Stockport last week and they were more than helpful but I have just had a phone call saying that VW are only willing to contribute 50% of the cost and to get it sorted it is going to cost me £650. Is there anything I can do to get them to pay more?

News is back on our wing.  Being replaced under warranty

(June 2005 MK5 GTi)

Took mine to VW Westbury today and very helpful bloke put the details into ELSA and computer says no (over 10 (June 05)). My service books States 12 yr warranty but ELSA says 10. I was advised to contact VW UK. Did so and a case has been raised - will get a call by Tuesday.

That's rubbish. Ours is over 10 years, just. Though people have said its dealer dependant, we also bought ours from them 2 years ago as approved used if that makes any difference. Either way the manual and vw website States 12 years so they shouldn't really be able to get away with saying no.....

Got a phone call today from VW UK, they won't repair my wings as its a 10 year corrosion warranty but the car has a 12 year perforation warranty and the 12 o'clock corrosion doesn't come under that?
I questioned the validility of their decision making after joining a forum where people have had success and some were the same age as my car. I said I'd purchased mainly VW cars over my driving life and had spent a small fortune within the VW brand and when I really needed their help I was being fobbed off. I was told he would get back to by the 19th. I got a call today and VW will do both my wings for free and my sill (only 1 rusted) will cost £100 to me. Car goes in on 7th Sep. keep trying folks it does work.

Steve.
Well mines been delayed as the wings are on back order. May be a day or two weeks!. They tried to contact me but we're trying somebody else's contact details - not a great start..... :stupid:

Well got mine back today, two new wings and they have done a top job despite the time they had it in. Now waiting to hear with regards to the tailgate badge area regarding a Dealer contribution!
Never owned a car with so many claim issues,  VW quality my Arse, Dealer used approved as well. my 30yr old 205gti has had fewer corrosion issues.

Would be interesting to see out of how many made have had warranty repairs. Since finding rust on mine I often see the arches bubbling on others too.

Mines going for a service in 2 weeks, and I've asked then to look at a little bit of wing rust I noticed the other day.  Fingers crossed.

Bit of a long shot but is there any dealers in the Glasgow area or even just Scotland in general where people have had success in getting repairs?
Mine is a 56 plate with 38k on it.  I've owned since new and the bloody wings are dissolving in front of my eyes.

Cheers.
