Rust on 5 door door shuts - hard rubber trim to blame.

My 5 door Edition 30 has small rust spots on exactly the same place on both rear door shuts.  They are definitely caused by the hard rubber trim attached to the rear door repeatedly scraping across the painted shut area and the sharp end causing micro abrasion to a specific area as the car is being driven which has caused the paint surface to be broken and lead to the rust spots. 
Anyone else had this problem?
Will VW listen??

Mine is doing the exact same thing. Mine shows quite badly aswell being a dark colour. I have thought of ways round it but haven't come to a conclusion.

The immediate solution is to slightly trim the seal I think but the rust is my main worry.
I'm going to book it in to my local dealer first and see what they say.
I suggest you do the same.

Just washed my 5 door this morning, and had a look at inside the rear doors, and they are both like yours.  tell us how you get on at vw

will ask the dealer to have a look when its in for its brake fluid service...

"O-Oh!" - I hear a can of worms being prised open!

I can't say I'm glad others have this problem but it's kind of reassuring I'm not the only 'Rear Doorshut Rust-Spot' sufferer.

I can't get to a dealer until late next week so please post any news here.

my mk 5 gti had this problem, i took it to vw got told it was the paintwork warranty that would have covered it, not the corrosion warranty so i got it repaired myself. A year and a half later i met the new owner of the car and was telling him what i had done to the car and the rust is back already, I think best bet would be repair the damage and get a bit of clear vinyl put over the area

I've just had a look on ELSAWIN and this problem is documented on there, the official fix is as follows:

Scratches (see illustration 1, red arrows) in the inner side panel on the C pillar - only vehicles with 4 doors.

Technical background

Dirt particles in the sealing lip of the window guide rub on the paint of the C pillar when opening and closing the door.


This complaint may recur after the chassis break(10.2004) - caused by very unfavourable or incorrect adjustment of the door.


Production change

Better contact of the window guide to the side panel.

Measure

• Perform the following procedure on the left and right side:
 
• Remove scratches:
 
• Polish or paint, depending on the degree of the damage.
 
• If painting is necessary, only spot-paint the affected area.
 
• Protect the areas by sticking PU foil part number: 1K4 809 387 on the contact area of the window guides. Part number 1K4 809 387 includes the foil for the left and right side.

Great stuff MPS. Question though, is this classed as a recall or something the customer has to pay for?

Mine had this, but only on one side for some reason.  The door alignment was all to cock on that car, I just assumed it had been badly adjusted and thats what was causing the problem.

I wonder if the foils are still available and if VW will recognise this as a legitimate warranty repair?

UPDATE...

Took my car into local VW dealer this afternoon, the bodywork assessor person wasn't there but a rather sullen young service guy took a few crude pics with the company digital camera and said he'd pass them to the correct person.
