ITG intake heat shield
« on: June 09, 2012, 10:42:23 pm »
Hi all,

thought i would get your opinions on the ITG heat shield (foam crappy thing). I have been running my car with this in place for a days now after previously fitting the kit with it off. I have found that with if fitted the car seems less responsive. I just thought i'd see what everyone else's opinions are and any alternative ideas for a heat-shield which might incorporate the OEM intake scoop

Cheers

Mike

Mike

I recently removed mine as it was looking tatty.

I think it improved responsiveness but could well be placebo effect.  I was without my car for a few weeks so it was bound to feel rapid after the wife's Lupo lol

i thought then when out on the open road, yes will be more responsive without, but if you are sat in traffic will help keep heatsoak to a mimimum with it fitted so depends whether you get caught in rush hour traffic much i have mine fitted at mo but may take off.

I have removed my heat shield again and it definitely seems to pull better without it.

When i bought mine i fitted it and thought that looks crap. Tbh i cant see where cold air could get in as it blocks off the grille vent that pushes cold air in, so i took it straight back off. I couldn't tell you how it drove with it on as i never tested it. Seems ok without it though. :happy2:

itg are the masters though, they have made it part of the kit for a reason.

what about that foam bit that goes across the battery? what is that meant to do? just stop dirt landing on the filter?

If you're sat in traffic will you not get heat soak through the hoses that run around the engine anyway?

When I fitted mine about a month ago, I had problems getting the bonnet to close flush, especially with the foam bit.

I took the heat shield off and it defo pulls better. Sometimes seems a bit lumpy with the heat shield on - maybe I haven't fitted it correctly.

Silicone is not a great conductor of heat so I would not have thought the heat soak to be too much of an issue.

:signLOL:, this sounds like an old wives fish tale!!!

Surely ITG would know whether that foam should be there or not????

Mine is purely foam, but I have seen some with a metal of some sorts stuck on the foam????

Justin were talking about the metal heatsheild that has foam on the back of it, it will be just behind the itg filter cone, don't go ripping the filter apart  :signLOL:
And yes itg have put it there for a reason so I'm not sure why it's better, I'll call itg Tomoz and ask the question, could just be a part in development that they put there and they haven't tried it without? I'll ask them  :drinking:

Oh, I'm talking about the foam piece that sits sort of to the left and stretches to the right above the intake???

Resurrection of dead thread but have definitely found a positive improvement leaving the crappy foam thing off
