50K mile service
« on: June 24, 2012, 07:20:16 pm »
Evening all,

My GTi is coming up soon for a 50K mile service. What is this service, oil and filter? or other bits need to be changed?

Cheers

Should just be a basic oil and filter change if you've had the other bits and bobs done in the past. All you could do with is a air filter and spark plug change if its never been done before. Mine is about the same mileage and other than cambelt and brake fluid these are the only things i've ever had done, and that is sticking to VW's own schedules.

Thanks for that reply.  I think the last service was an oil one - I will have to check in the book.

What milage is the timing belt changed at?

That's just the info I needed - the searched worked for me for once  :signLOL:

My GTi is due an MOT on the 6th Dec and in 1400 miles a 50K service. So I might get the two done together.

Just done a further research on here and found this on VW's website:  http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/servicing/fixed-price-servicing

That doesn't sound like too bad a combined price. However don't forget that VW will price match a price of any other garage in the local area if they are using genuine parts.

Thanks for that.  So if I contact a few VAG specialists  - TTS, VAG Tech, Indie Tech for a 50K service, VW will match their price,  so long as they use genuine parts?

According to the service book (1.1 Service Schedule) I have in front of me, the next service is an interval one and read that so far the spark plugs, air filter have not been changed. Is this correct?

I am finding the service schedule a right pig to follow and understand.  Why can't they have a table with all the service parts and milage/time so you can see what needs to be done.

Yep, that's right, so long as they are within a certain mileage radius. About 3 or 4 miles I think, I can't remember exactly. They also might want to see a written quote as proof.
I think that if they haven't been changed before then your spark plugs and air filter will need replacing yeah.
