aftermarket air intake
« on: November 19, 2008, 04:38:31 pm »
afternoon chaps

I've been looking at air intakes(I'm slowly coming around to the idea of more power after I went out in an evo at the weekend).
Now I've found a few but on the face of it they all look ok but the one that jumps out at me is the  Dbilas Flowmaster Intake System .

It looks like it would do the job very well. They all seem to be around the same price and they have +/- features. This Dbilas means you dont get to put the engine cover back on, according to them. But with a little jiggery pokery I suspect you can?

Has anyone used this yet and what are other people running?

You can use the original engine cover if your willing to hack it down a bit, or you can buy a replacement cover which is just that a cover - think its about £79.

Are you manual or DSG?

EVOMS and Forge are another couple to look at.

I have got a Carbonio but I wish I would have looked at other products at the time when I was in the market for an intake  Knowing what I know now I would have definately gone for the Dbilas. It has had some really good reports especially on tuned up ED30's/S3's  :happy2:

What sort of noise does it make Rob? More of a growl?

I would guess that you can really hear that thing sucking!!

Hmm hard to explain, the blow off sound is louder with abit of a growl when giving it some,

It doesnt sound like the growl you hear on a piper x  fiestas you get around town, its quiet when
you want it to be.

To me the dbilas looks alot nicer and better designed as it has a more ram air effect from the existing intake duct at the front of the car. Also the filter is completely shielded so less chance of it sucking in hot air.
May have to look into getting a dbilas, never seen one before, looks really good 8)

....

ITG, who are very highly rated as air filter manufacturers, are working on an aftermarket Air Intake for the Mk5 GTI. I'm waiting for that. We don't know when yet.

No, I'm not testing it. They are liaising with tuners and still developing it. Should be a good 'un.
