Real cost ko4?
« on: July 02, 2012, 11:22:21 pm »
So i feel although not provent yet, that my turbo has a small crack similar to RR's thread back in the day.

So im weighing up my options much like he did!

2nd hand ko3 or ko4 conversion.

I feel that prices have dropped on the ko4 kits so it wont be 4k!

Not including the turbo, what parts in here do i actually need? And would i be getting them from a dealer? What sort of prices?

Might be able to sort the injectors to go with the turbo too and can help source the rest of the parts via TPS if your interested in the turbo.

What stage of tuning would you be looking at? If your going 2+ then there's no way a stock clutch will hold up and you will also need a decent set of stoppers. I dont know if you already have either but i would seriously put them into your costing.

....As one door closes, another one opens. So, as a K04 conversion is cheaper nowadays.......

Price-wise, as a real-world guide, JKM charge: http://www.jkm.org.uk/performance/tfsik03k04conversion.htm < But if you can buy SteveP's or a new one from Loba, it will cost less. Depends which K04 option you feel most comfortable with.

It would be useful if you posted any pics of the crack. Is it in the same location as mine was?

As I was a few years ago (already!), I think you are at a fairly major Y-junction and it depends on your longer term plans for your car. To make sense of it all you will want bigger brakes and handling mods. A K04 car is undoubtedly faster but I have absolutely no regrets staying with K03.

Car is dsg so not worried about clutch. Have S3 brakes.

Thanks Steve I'll drop you a pm.

RR I will be keeping the car for some time now, I think I'd be the same as you.... Not bothered by staying ko3 and spend my time on handling mods. But if I get a real world price of ko4 then I have at least given it a fair shout.

.
Depending how far you go on remapping, DSG clutchpacks may be pretty solid but they're not totally bomb-proof. It's torque which is their enemy.

Be aware (as I'm sure you already are) that Miss Power is an intoxicating temptress! But whatever decisions one makes in life there is never any point in having regrets - Miss Regrets is always a miserable cow.
