Selling my car and want some oppinions what to get next
« on: May 28, 2009, 07:24:47 pm »
boof, golf a goin.

it is a very well looked after 55 plate tdi sport - loads of extras (sunroof etc) - anyone know what i should be asking for it?

And....

I have 2 choices.

1) get a car for about 4-6g little sporty number. 2 seater. and move into my own place (mate needs a new roomy)

2) Stay at home and spend about 7-12 on another motor.

Just looking for some oppinions on what to do. i really wana do option 1 as i wana move out again but love my cars too much.

Anyone got any ideas of what nice cheap cars i can get for around that mark. something with more poke too.

cheers lads

Shaun

Move out, and get yourself something from here: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/list.asp?g=1&o=p&min=4000&max=6000&Submit=Search

Moving out was the best thing I ever did (2nd was getting the GTI!) and there are some seriously good cars in that budget :)

If I had that money to spend on a new motor and I wanted something rapid I'd get myself another Civic Type-R. You can get a decent 2002/2004 Type-R for under 5k theses days and there ain't much I can think of thats well built, reliable and very rapid if your willing to make it scream! It wasn't bad on juice either.

I had one for 3 years and my only gripe was that it was a bit too hardcore for the road but if you want an exciting fast car for peanuts that ain't ancient, look no further mate! :happy2:

To be fair, my remapped Ibiza Cupra TDI would pull away from CTRs, it was super reliable and sipped fuel.  the handling was a bit scary at times but thats part of the fun!

Tell me about it. Last year, I saved aroud £10k (which went on the MK5). This year, I've saved.......£200!!!

I'm heading back home next year (mainly because I'm moving jobs) and I could save enough to buy a house, if I'm careful!

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Type r that didn't like to stay on the road  :surprised:  How do you drive?

Seriously, A CTR is a great weapon for the cash (the breadvan version) steering can feel a little lifeless but a geometry change by ABP motorsport changes that and doesn't cost a lot.

I'd also look for an integra DC2, very very raw but fantastic to drive when you're in the mood. Out of your lower price range, but an integra DC5 (import only) 240bhp and an awesome compromise between comfortable daily driver and track terrorist - much better than a CTR!

On a serious note, if you had trouble keeping your CTR on the road DON'T buy an early S2000 what ever you do. I had one in 1999 when they first came out and the handling was far from predictable on the limit in the dry!!  in the wet is another story altoghether  :scared:

If you're sticking to the lower and of your budget what about an early Clio Trophy, had very expensive trick suspension as standard and as a result is a hoot to drive.

Keep £1000 in your account at all times if you get a Renaultsport Clio, just in case the driveshafts and exhaust go in the same week!

They go and handle well but they're bloody expensive when they go wrong!

If it was me, I'd get an S3.

If you want practical, smart and cheap what about a MkII octavia VRS...... Just need to see beyond the badge

They're starting to be available for £7k which is not much money at all for what's on offer.

One of my mates sold his ED30 and bought a BMW Z4 convertible for about £8k.
