skoda fabia LED running lights?

not had time yet. currently focusing on installing my ICE (car is in bits and spread across various rooms in my house and sheds lol).

Once thats done I've had go ahead from VW for my rust so that will be another 2-3 weeks i expect.

Then when I have it back I can think about playing with these.

So, to ask a stupid question, do you lose the fog light ability if you do these?  Where I live it can get very foggy very often so that extra bit of light really helps as main beam just makes it harder to see.

....Yes. Obviously front fogs only. It's a MOT fail not to have at least one rear foglight.

It can be very foggy (and heavy sea mists) in my neck of the woods too but I don't find it a problem and prefer to have the DRL's.

Going on my research there's a few ways to wire these in... They use the standard VAG 3 pin wiring system for DRLs ( a 100% pin, a 'dim' pin and common ground)

1. Wire them in as bog standard DRLs as you would your 'halfrauds' kit... (wouldn't really bother with this method)

2. Install a 3c0 30 byte CECM, wire in fogs if you haven't already straight to the CECM - activate fogs and cornering lights, activate fogs as drls and connect the skoda drls in place of your fogs - this way you'll get fog lights when you want them... Cornering lights when your low beams are activated, drls during the day!

3. Simply install them in place of fogs, wire them up as fogs as drls if you have a lower/less byte CECM

Number 2 is most desirable if you have the means, 2 is probably most feasible...1 is easiest!

The CECM is the central electronics control module, controls all your lights etc. if your cars a 2007 or newer chances are you may already have a 30byte one installed especially if you have fogs (I got mine from a salvage skoda Octavia which was on a 57)

Tbh, I dont know how the dim function would work, I'm going to look into that properly at some point, I know you can get a controller which deals with it all but I would hope the CECM in the car would deal with it all what with it all being vag parts...

There's a guy on r32oc who installed the a6 drls on his r32 and had the dimming function, he used the controller, with this however you would lose the option of fogs I would have thought as I don't think you can run two 12 volt sources to the same pin on the CECM (you'd have one coming from your drl controller then one for your fog switch) so you'd get errors and it'd either not work or kill the LEDs.

Personally I want to retain the ability to have fogs (or at least something which resembles them) should I need them...plus I think the cornering lights look cool...lol

Could it not be wired up through a change over relay for a ignition live to switch to dimmed when lights turned on

Yup, that's the proper way of number 1 lol.

But...you would lose fogs...my goal is to retain as much oem function as possible...for those that have fogs already, wanting to go down this route would mean just buying these units, the wiring, cheap eBay fog housings and some coding...all reversible. Plus retain fogs!

....Am I missing something here? Fog lights and DRL's are quite different: The light from fog lights designed for purpose, is not the same as the LED light from DRL units. In the same location you either have fogs or you have LED DRL's, not both unless you fit extra light units.

There is a thread showing the LED DRL strip units which can be fitted in addition to keeping the OEM fogs.

Do people just connect to the sidelight wiring?

If this was done, would the DRL's just come on when the sidelights are switched on, or would they be on when ever the headlights are on?

Apples is option 3 a straight 'plug n play' assuming you have the correct controller and can code it?

What about a bulb warning light, would this throw any up, or do you think the light unit somehow overcomes this?
