Possible to 'rough up' a smoothed steering wheel?
« on: August 04, 2012, 11:17:54 am »
My GTI has a few miles on it so consequently the steering wheel is a bit glossy! Is there a way to recondition or rough up the leather without going for a taxi style cover?

I had this on my mk3 and used a good liquid leather cleaner on it, bit by bit working clockwise it got all the crap off and gave it a much nice feel.

JML foam magic eraser (or called something similar!) works well to get rid of all the shiny-ness and grease! It will need treating after obviously!

You'll find the glossyness is grease and general grime. I use gliptone leather cleaner

Wow, just reading those threads and seems a sponge and some leather treatment will do the trick! Off to home base I go.
