Hi from New Zealand
« on: August 11, 2012, 06:33:32 am »
Hi Guys,

Have been watching your forum for quote some time now, reading and dreaming mostly - was sent here by a member who said it really does help spend your money!

Anyway I purchased my MK5 GTI about four months ago now and loving it.

Car has travelled 70,000km (43.5k mi) now and has had the MTM stage one chip on since pretty much brand new. Plans for the future involve going to stage 2+ APR.

Anywho, a couple of pics (please forgive the shocking combo of both falling daylight and phone pictures!). Excuse the rear end, tints were on the car when I bought it and I've gotten progressively more annoyed with them as time passes. Will be sourcing the OEM LED's shortly I hope :happy2:

Also made the switch just today from;

to;

Which IMO should be on everyones to-do list, fantastic stereo!

Anyway, thanks for the inspiration and help thus far!

Aidan.

A very warm welcome and its a fact that this forum does help spend your money.
Loverly looking car but no sure what the last owner was thinking about those rear lights  :rolleye:

Any plans in the future apart from a remap?

Thanks :smiley:

Yep, I'm really over the tails. I actually liked them when I bought it, but they wear on you with time. I really want to take a heat gun to them but I'm not sure how it would pan out. If someone has a DIY (step-by-step for amateurs) on making the LED's R35 GTR style would be appreciated.

It already has the MTM chip (and so coming from my MK3 GTI - has a heap of go) but my list is substantial!

Want to go VWR Intake, APR HPFP, RSC Exhaust (turbo back incl. DP) and Chip to get 2+. All in due time!

Have some S3 front brakes secured too - just need to fit them now.

Then it's just some small things like ED.30 front lip and paint the lower section of the rear bumper.

Our cars in NZ (MY07+) are all Highline with MFSW and puddle lights etc so nothing needed there.

Welcome.
Nice car! Although those rear lights are gash in my opinion! :sick:

Where in NZ are you? My sister lives in Auckland and drives a yellow JCW Mini. She loves GTI's though and had a black Mk1 when she lived in Scotland 20 or so years ago. Told me how she used to get from Glasgow to Edinburgh in 40 minutes or so (at 4am after finishing work). I have a feeling she broke the law doing this?! I was a kid and loved that car - probably the reason I bought a GTI recently!

She says the traffic police over there are pretty ruthless.

Hey mate, cheers and as you can see above those lights will be out!!

I live in the Wellington / Hutt Valley area, but love Auckland (much more to be done,  but not so beautiful)

That car would be very noticeable - quite expensive here in NZ. Did look at one when I bought the GTI as a mate has a brand new one, but I couldn't live with it...

And yeah, the Police can be ruthless for sure! Though if your good, and have a tidy looking car they're pretty OK. Just another reason all our GTIs here have cruise control!

Thanks all for the kind welcomes, now to start participating...
