Hi,
Had my GTI a couple of months now. Currenty its as I bought it, standard car apart from some R32 replica alloys.
First Job was to get cambelt & waterpump service done and cam follower changed, done at Awesome in Irlam.
Changed the back tyres as they were sawtoothing.
Emissions light came on a few weeks ago but with help from bacillus with VAG-COM it was code P0441 which was cleared. Hasnt returned as yet and advice given by bacillus was not to fill fuel tank to brim which is what I always did. Seems to be working.
I use the GTI everyday about 350 miles a week so need it to be practical in terms of modding for everyday use. Plans are performance wise to get it to stage 2 and upgrade the suspension on a budget thought, most things sourced second hand.
My first mod carried out this weekend was fitment of a boost gauge, I wanted to see if the car was making correct boost and for future mods seemed a good idea. I used the guide psoted by john_o in the product review section which was great. Unfortunatly budget couldnt stretch to a Defi boost gauge so bought one from RS-Spec ebay store, blue stepper motor psi gauge £40.00. Managed to get a Forge boost fitment kit off tommy_a which made life a lot easier and straight forward neat boost tap from inlet manifold. The whole process took me near 3hrs, longest part was taking the electrical wire into the car via the rubber gromet behind battery. The rest was fairly straight forward. As the gauge was electrical I didnt need to take the vacum hose into the car, just up to the boost sensor which I attached behind the battery cover.
Colour match with interior blue/red lights was good. Ive just attached it on top of the dash with some double sided tape in the pod & holder which came with the gauge, not the neatest finish but does the trick for now. May look to get vent pod when budget allows.
Max boost reading I'm getting is around 12psi.
Total Cost:
Boost Gauge £40.00
Forge boost Kit second hand £10.00
Wires/connectors/tools £10.00
£60.00 all in.
