hello all - Found an Affordable GTI
« on: August 23, 2012, 12:03:40 pm »
hello not been active on here for a little while, been on the hunt for a GTI for time!

anyway i have found one on piston heads that seems affordable to me however im waiting for the owner to get back to me on the mileage.

in the mean time i don't think it has the following things fitted that are really what i want in the Golf.

Ipod connectivity

Multifunction steering wheel

winter pack

if the car doesn't include any of the above are they easy to get hold of and fit? and how much would i be looking at to add them? (top 2 are more important for me at the moment)

once again.... :notworthy:

Ipod is easy enough. MFSW can be done but requires a few things so not a straight forward job. Winterpack would be alot of work to retrofit.

ipod to be honest is the most important to me at the moment, big music fan and at the moment i use a radio frequency transmitter from my iphone in my 1.4s golf sh*t head speakers and its crap mate.

i drive a lot of motor way miles to get to uni and back and the quality of sound is a kick in the plums every ride

Honestly, the iPod connectivity in the Golf is pointless. On the two iPod's I could get it to work at all it would only play some of certain playlists, that you had to guess which one was which as it just basically assigns each of the 6 preset buttons to a playlist.

If you really want Ipod connectivity, I would think about getting the Bluetooth fitted as you can then stream music from your Ipod with full functionality. Or you could just get a RNS510 and dump all your tunes on the Hard drive. This is what I did and never feel the need to hook my Iphone up now.

Steering wheel you can do quite easily. I did my car that didn't have MFSW and now have paddles for my DSG too.

The xcarlink works well with the standard head unit.  MFSW most likely cost a bit?

You'd get more for selling your car privately than you would in p/x

Also, I agree with waiting for the right one to come up - optional extras in 2nd hand cars don't add much (if anything) to the value of the car  :happy2:
