Metropolitan Police Virus
« on: August 24, 2012, 10:03:55 pm »

Watch out for this fellas. It locks your computer saying you are being fined for looking at porn under the social information act 2012, then demands £100 to unlock your computer. Very clever, as it has Metroplitan Police branding.

They then take your details and empty your account if you are a sucker and fall for it.

It can come through, ahem, er, 'Gentlemen's websites', or it can come through anything including Facebook. (I got it on the MENSA website you understand)

Cost me 30 sheets to get rid of it at my local repairer, who said they are getting about 5 a day in!

Best to sit in front of your computer wearing a condom for protection while viewing those specialised cookery with gardening web sites. Of course, being a single gentleman I never visit those sites. Sounds like a heavy duty virus and a clever scam - There's bound to be quite a few people who have fallen for it.

We have just had computers infected with the 'Yorkshire Police virus'

One was the work desktop and we lost everything on it! The second was a laptop and we managed to save that! Over 10 years worth of accounts gone! Thankgod for paper copies!

I don't know if this will help anyone:

This virus in slightly various guises has been around since 2011 if reports are true.

this infection has been round about 10months now.

It doesnt delete data, it sometimes sets your profile to hidden and moves data to the c drive under a randomly named folder.

Its straight forward to remove.

This infection can get past any anti virus just as most can, it exploits vulnerabilities in out of data java installations. So make sure your java is upto date!

Norton, macfee, kaspersky, mse, avast (and others) they all protect around the same and all can let infections past, its down to the user to be vigilant about what they install/run and also keep things like java/flash and windows upto date.

I must run 15-20 removals a day when im in work with different infections/anti viruses and such.
