Bigmig95's Gti long overdue update
« Reply #45 on: June 26, 2014, 10:23:33 pm »
Nice work you got a link to the splitter off eBay please??

Thanks
Simon

Same splitter as Simon_2.0t, saw his and bit the bullet as well.  I'll post a link if I find one.  Can't find the link   :sad1: was around £110 earlier this year I believe.  Maybe a limited run as I can't see anymore when i put a search in.

Be aware if you come across one it will need re-priming, the primer came away really easy from the splitter when I got it.

How many screws did you have left over mate, I had 4  nothing's fell off/rattled so all good  :happy2:

No screws fortunately but an annoying occasional rattle, sounds like a bit of trim.  will investigate.  With all the how to's on this including APR's most people who can use tools should be capable of doing it.  If your methodical and make note of where fasteners have come from it's not as difficult as it looks.  If you did it on your own you are a hero though  :notworthy:

Lovely progress mate.

Same splitter as myself  :drinking:

Love the engine mods. One day, one day

Si

Got the splitter idea off you Si  :happy2:.  Your thread persuaded me to change my own side skirts as well  :drinking:

I didn't fit the cooler on my own her dad helped me with it. I will be remove the front bumper tonight anyway to fit the xenons so hopefully ill see 4 threads that need a damn good screwing  :signLOL:

Had a young fella lightly rear end the car.  We sorted it out and he wasn't too keen on involving the insurance.  The damage was only light scuffing but i wanted it all as it was before.  I also had some additional work done while it was it, my rear end is a beaut now    Couple of shots of the work as it was in progress.

Service due then Milltek and HPFP on then off for remap.

New Helix clutch off Alex as well so should be good for the extra power.

Milltek on.  Non res' Edition version with shallow back box.  Sounds fantastic  :happy2:  Not the best decision I ever made was fitting on axle stands, complete PITA.  Main issue being the downpipe needs a reasonably steep angle to be taken off and the new one put in.  Did it to save fitting costs which it did but the air was blue during the install

Used high temp silicon for the the exhaust joints and its worked a treat.

New clutch and also DMF flywheel bought through the group buy.  Booked in to have fitted with AKS shortly.

Will need to book it in for a remap once the clutch and Autotech pump are fitted.  Still undecided where to go at present.

Also got hold of some new coil pack connectors as these do tend to get damaged over the cars life with the clips getting broken.  These will get installed when the new R8 coil packs turn up from the group buy.  Just need to get the pin extraction tool as well.

Just had her serviced as well and also had the fuel filter changed for good measure.

Picture of her cleaned up

Looks great  :happy2:

Should be collecting mine this afternoon after having the shallower back box put on also  :pomppomp:

Could never get to grips with the normal Milltek hanging down

Do you have the part numbers handy for the coil pack connectors? One of mine needs replacing

 :drinking:

Thanks freddy  :happy2: If it helps the connectors have 4BO 973 724 on them.  I Just told a former work colleague what I was after and received a bag a few days later.  Sometimes it's who you know

Been looking for a DAB aerial but with having a 2005 model I don't have a aerial on the roof, it's built into the tailgate.  I wanted to stay OEM and didn't want a stick on aerial in the windscreen, found this off Ed.

DAB amplifier off a MK6.  After a bit of a search and a read on the net I replaced the left hand tailgate unit found in mine, see below.

The DAB version has a double Fakra on it so I had to source some connectors.  Couldn't find where so bought a few leads with connectors on, they come off easy and it wasn't much additional outlay

Took the plug off and fitted it to my long extension lead that goes through the tailgate, headlining and into the DAB connector on the RCD510

Lashed it all up and it worked, had AM and FM as well, once tested tidied it all up and job done. Opens up a load more channels and as a bonus reception by me is pretty good.

Also had the high level brake light failed.  bought a new one and carefully broke the old one out as per here.

http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=121067.0

Got my clutch fitted by Alex at AKS.  Had a few extras on the way due to bushes being a bit worn.  Alex had some S3 console bushes and I also had a superpro insert to replace the autotech insert I had installed a few months back.

Alex also replaced my N75 valve, I'd been having intermittent loss of boost and a distinctive change in exhaust pitch.  I naturally assumed a wastegate issue and replacing the N75 seems to have sorted it all out.  It must have been sticking for some time as the surge I was getting with my REVO map seems to have reduced significantly with this latest revision N75.  :happy2:

Apologies for the crap photos.

Now the Helix is in next stop R-Tech for 2+.  At least the clutch won't be the limiting factor when it being done.  :happy2:

Looks great. Some quality mods too.

I know it was a while back, but any issues in getting VW to go 50/50 on the boot rust thing? Going to be having words with them soon about mine that's all..

Also, the r32 setup under the 17"s any more pictures? I'm dubious about spacing issues but I know people have run it before..

Look forward to more updates.

Thanks for the comments.  No issues with the boot, still a bit annoyed they pay for the wings and only 50/50 on the boot but I took what I could.  I dealt with Listers paint shop in Coventry and they've been OK.  Wings being done shortly, second time lucky but this time I'll have them completely replaced rather than patched up  :sad1:  I hope they've got rid of the hyundai i10 courtesy car, I'm 6'6" and that was funny turning up to work in that last time

The R32/S3 calipers and 345mm discs run fine under Monza 17's.  No spacing issues on mine or anyone else I know who've ran them  :happy2:

Now that really is a compliment, thank you  :drinking:.  Car drives better than ever at the moment even at 98k. Should have changed the N75 and console bushes ages ago

Thinking about CDL conversion early next year if I can pick one up for the right price.  Everything should be in place with the hardware I have for some pretty good numbers.  :happy2:

Thanks.  Install was really straight forward.  Biggest ball ache was getting the new DAB line throught the tailgate to body rubber grommet.  Some people split them to get the DAB line in then tape up and I now know why, I managed to get mine through without any damage but it was quite a tight fit and involved a few attempts. :happy2:

For anyone with an early mk5 there is a guy selling these as kits on Ebay.  (nothing to do with me by the way)
