« on: September 07, 2012, 05:34:26 pm »
Hi guys on ny way home from work today cruising down the motorway at 70 looked down at tenp gauge and it was just below 130! Pulled over and there was no coolant in my header tank so filled it up with 1.5 litres of water i had in the boot and let it cool down drove the rest of the way home (about 5 miles) and it sat at 90 the whole time got about a mile away from home and the temp light came on popped the bonnet and had no coolant again , anyone got any ideas?

Neil

Hi Neil,

Has the cambelt been changed recently or any other service work.

- Check the oil, is there any white gunk on the dip stick or the filler cap or any oil in coolant header tank.
- Fill the system with coolant, let it sit for a couple of hours then start following the coolant pipes inspecting all the joints for signs of moisture.
- Take the bottom engine cover off and with the engine running check for any leaks with a torch.

Hi dodger

I had a look today and couldnt find any leaks i also did a cambelt and water pump on her As i thought it may be the pump but it was in great condition.

There isnt any white gunk ( also did a sniff test) and that came up negative.

Good news about the sniff test so you can for the moment rule out the Head Gasket. Did you check the radiator including the edges?

Could be totally wrong but depending on your year model what you are seeing could be down to a porous or cracked head.

Don't think the BXE engine is effected by the Porous head issue like early 140Bhp 2.0 TDI heads.

Could have been a dodgy seal. Did you use OEM parts or after market?
