Whistling noise
« on: September 27, 2012, 09:08:42 pm »
i was out having a bit of a play earlier today in my gti and when i accelerate hard in 2nd and 3rd - above 5000rpm i get a whistling noise like air escaping from somewhere!

the diverter valve was replace a few years back by VW....is this the classic symptoms of a faulty DV?

If so how much are we talking to get it replaced by VW?

cheers

The DV is the first place I would look. The Revision G is about £40 or the Revision D is about 50. Do a search on them both and make your own mind up on which one you want to get, I would say G. If you've an ED30, super easy to fit yourself, it's right at the front of the engine bay at the top. Here's a "how to" guide...

If you have a k03 engine it's a little more difficult to change. Plenty have changed it, have a look through "Search"

Mine did this, turned out to be a boost leak on drivers side intercooler hose.
Silver GTI, Revo Stage 1, R32 rear bumper, R32 exhaust, R32 rear lights, ED30 front splitter, RCD510, Lowered on Eibachs, open fog grills.

When putting my foot down over about 5k revs I too get a noise I didn't notice when I first got the car... Maybe I was listening out for problems as I had some work done on the car and didn't notice it before, my noise is more of a sucking sound... maybe the turbo? Or the characteristics of the engine...

I took it to the Indy vw specialist this morning, when linked up to the computer it had a DV fault code. He wiped it then we went out a drive cane back and no fault codes this time....

Think I will get the DV changed as even if its intermittent there is still an issue!
