S3 or modded Edition 30
« on: October 07, 2012, 07:53:37 am »
Right guys got a bit of a problem lol, been looking for an edition 30 for ages now. Missed a stage 2+ one and was a bit gutted. Seen another one for sale (on the forum) its modded with VWR suspension mods, high spec, DSG & Revo stage 1.

Now here's the tricky part, recently my friend has offered me a very good PX deal on his Audi S3 MK2, doesn't have navigation or Recaro's but still really nice condition.

If I buy the Edition I'll still have my GTI to sell on and with today's car market being slow, may take a while to shift for the price I want. A PX with the S3 makes sense but for some reason my heart says ed30 lol

I already own a manual K03 GTI so maybe silly to move onto a K04?

I'd hope to go stage 2+ on the edition 30 but financially doesn't it make more sense to get the S3 which already has a larger rad, brakes and four wheel drive traction.

Any help & input would be good. Sure other members have been in the same position

If I was going stage 2+ again, and had the chance for that to be in a 4wd car, then i'd probably take it.. it's alot of power for the front wheels to cope with...  But then again I find audi's quite bland to look at... That a tough one....

I prefer the look of the edition 30 ESP with the xenons etc.. I've not driven either. My mate lives around 4 hours drive from me and the ed30 is around 6 hours away. I have a GTI ATM so have a rough idea of what it's like to drive, although it is a manual. I say I'd hope to go stage 2+ but with 300 bhp doubt I'd feel the need too. Think brakes and susp mods would come first

S3 all day long

Why?

Better interior, better brakes, better intercooler, looks better(IMO), better traction.

So if you want to go stage 2+ you dont need to waste £400+ on an intercooler, or £500+ on brakes, or £1000+ on an LSD, or £50-£80 per corner on semi slick tyres to have traction.

What Sy said. My mate has an S3 and even in standard form its very rapid due to the 4wd system.

I've had an ED30 with stage 2+ (and more!) and currently have a stage 2+ Golf R (Like an S3, but better ). I wouldn't go back to FWD after living with 4WD. The downsides, the S3 has the older RNS-E nav system, you cant help using all that extra traction and it affects the fuel consumption, needs the remap to at least stage 1 to make up for the extra weight. That's about it.
Golf R gone.

I agree with John if your going to push the power you need to have it controlled, apart from he is obviously on some kind of drugs thinking the his R is on par with an S3

Gonna go with the edition 30, can't bring myself to buy an S3 when the option of a modded ed30 is there. If I go stage 2+ will jus give me a reason to get a slippy diff:)

Haha good point. I agree the S3 makes more sense from a modding point of view but I prefer the looks of the ed30, the DSG is something I've wanted for ages and for pure enjoyment I think I'd prefer the GTI. There's more to life than traction :signLOL:

Thanks for all the advice tho:)

Personal choice ain't it. I bought the ed30 because I love the look of it.... Looks "just like (any old) a golf)".

I could have easy got an s3 for the same money but I didn't and dot regret it.
