Personally I have had 4WD, Subaru, and I found it too easy to drive quickly.

'That sounds silly' you say, but I prefer a bit of a challenge, a bit of excitement.

The Subaru didn't even have traction so god knows what a VAG 4WD is like :chicken:

Also the VAG 4WD, I believe, isn't even a 'real' 4WD is it? The majority of torque is through the front until it senses slip after a 7th of a revolution? I am preparing to be corrected on that.

All my opinion of course but I made the right choice for me with the ED30.

ED30 more fun to drive in the summer. Frustrating in the wet. S3 not as much fun to drive in the summer (too easy, less involving) but actually a hoot when its cold n wet and you can launch it even when its pissing down and it just grips and goes.

S3 with a sorted chassis turns it into a go kart though and is fun all year round then.

I thought your .:R was a Gen 4 Haldex whereas the S3 is/was a Gen 2 or 3. I thought the Gen 4 was more predictive in it's torque redistribution.

How does R compare to S3 in terms of driver's feedback and involvement? One of biggest downside of s3 was kinda of drivers lack of involvement

Ed30 for me but if R better than S3 in that respect than maybe...

I've had/have both. Had a stage 2+ ED30 with ARB's/coilovers etc and it was a fantastic car but traction was an issue. The ED30 met a premature end, so I decided it would be an S3 to replace it, I will be the first to admit although a lovely car a standard S3 is nothing to write home about. But it doesn't take much to turn it into a real handy tool, I've had mine for 4 years now and have gradually modded it, now stage 2+,ARB's, coilovers etc etc and in the real world it is a fantastic road car and can more than hold its own on the track

both are great cars  :happy2:

All this negativity about the S3  :signLOL:

I think mine has the Gen 4 Haldex(being 2010) I also thought this Gen distributed 60% to the rear and 40% to the front, and would compensate accordingly for any traction loss?  :innocent:

At some point, VAG has introduced a feature into the Haldex that clutches will bite always when throttle is planted 100%, so it will not wait for slippage during launch. I cannot remember when this happened, but I think R has it.

Nah not really the S3's are lovely just prefer a bit of torque steer :driver: :signLOL:

Actually my ED30 is pretty sorted so don't really get much at 2+!

My only issue with Audi's at the moment is that you can't tell a 1.4 front end from a RS3!

Maybe a bit of a exaggeration but you know what I mean :signLOL:

I just like VW's and I probably would have an 'R' over a ED30.

Edition 30 with DSG for sure, I'd only have an S3 if it was DSG, it makes the car so much better.

I know people say about traction etc but with some good tyres they put the power down quite well, yeah I know it's never going to do mental 0-60's etc but I think and stage 2+ spec ED30 with DSG is a exciting car to drive and can be a handful around the lanes!

As some people say, an S3 can be a bit too easy and planted some times.

Personal choice ain't it. I bought the ed30 because I love the look of it.... Looks "just like (any old) a golf)".

I could have easy got an s3 for the same money but I didn't and dot regret it.
