Road Angel compact
« on: October 07, 2012, 09:31:11 pm »
Evening all, I've had a road angel compact for the best part of 10yrs which has been great for driving outside of my normal commute. Problem is now I can't update it as its not compatible with windows 7 and that's all I have at home and work now.
Has anyone else had this dilemma?!
I may as well cancel the DD now but not really that useful if its not up to date so will probably eBay it.
Has anyone used the iPhone app or got a latest version (gem)?

Does the program not install or give an error with installation?

You tried installing it in xp compatible mode?

+1 for trying to run in compatibility mode. Have you searched with google for known issues? A quick check shows you can use it with windows 7 32 bit but not 64 bit. Have you updated the drivers?

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Yes I have tried compatability mode and just got error messages. I had done a bit of searching on google but did not get to the bottom of it before giving up last time.
I will try and have another crack one of the evenings this week when I am feeling more patient!  :fighting2:

What version of win7 are you using, as if it's pro or ultimate, you could install and run xp in virtual mode for just the road angel software.

Im on Home Premium 64 bit.

Not having much joy though! Bacillus, thanks for the link, unfortunately looks like I am on the wrong version.

Tried running in compatability mode but keep getting "Run Time Error 91. Object variable or with block variable not set"
Quite frustrating and google doesnt seem to be helping as much as hoped!  :sad1:

Cheers Bacillus, appreciate your help here! I have created the new registry key but still getting the run time error when troubleshooting the compatability. Any other suggestions?

Hmm, how often do you update? IMO the simplest option would be to try doing it via another pc running a 32bit operating system, be it xp, vista or win7. Any buddies with such a pc?

The more complicated solution would be to dual boot a 32 bit version of xp or vista (assuming you have a suitable copy) with your present 64 bit windows 7 or install xp another hdd that you can swap with your present hdd. The complicated solution will demand a higher level of windows competence and being savvy switching hdds.

Probably only update once a month or before I'm going somewhere further afield.

I will try and get access to an older system for the sake of once a month.

Thanks for your support though Bacillus, proof again how great this forum is for knowledge!  :happy2:
