Painting hubs and calipers...

Hi guys, after some advice...

My hubs are looking tired and the calipers are looking slightly pink  :confused:

What is the best paint to use? Spray or brush? Best stuff to clean them with before painting?

cheers guys, I wana do it once but not over the top!  :drinking:

your calipers must be quite old if showing pink, mine are 4 years old with 38k and just need a clean, can you take your calipers of yourself or do you want to clean them whilst still on the car ?

Wurth brake cleaner spray and a stiff bristled brush and cloth etc. to clean them.

Spray needs masking but will give a very even finish, provided you don't overspray and get drips.
Brush is quick and easy, but you will have minor brush marks.
E-tech and Foliatec  are 2 brands I've heard of. Some people use Hammerite.

I have pink calipers too. They look sh*te.

"Calipers looking sh*te? Use Hammerite!"
Should I be in advertising?

I used matt black high temp exhaust paint on the hubs. Seems to have worked well and lasted over a year.

cheers for that hedge, i will buy the same thing and just brush it on,,, the brush marks aint to bad plus once the wheels on who is gonna notice,,, can you post a pic with wheel on dude to see the end result  :happy2:

the calipers are 4 years old, not sure if all the wheel cleaning stuff ive used has faded them :/

will take the wheels off and clean them up at the weekend!

yeah man just bought a pot of paint but only 125ml, hope its enough,,, i guess you just done the one coat,,,, was thinking about that hub spinning around at 100mph or so,,, hope the paint stays on lol

I just used the halfords caliper paint (similar to enamel paint in that as it drys the marks disapear)... hubs I used a high temp gloss black paint (did find this still chips off quite easy)

maybe it chips because it is a gloss ? was your calipers red to begin with ? if so why blue

Just had to give my fronts a good seeing to so that they matched the nearly new Mk6 calipers and carriers I fitted to the rears recently, all I did was give them a good scrub with a stiff brush after applying megs wheel cleaner then used a light cutting compound/scratch remover to bring back the colour and sealed them with a wax. They look great and are an absolute doddle to keep clean now.
I went for silver hammerite for my hubs as I already had some in the shed and i think it looks good, give the brakes a nice "new look" to them.
Laser Blue 3dr No 209683, Leather, Monza II's and a few other goodies...........GONE but not forgotten......now in an A4 S-Line Avant 170tdi......god I miss the Gti.

Did mine with the E-tech about a month ago.  Just cleaned them brake cleaner, a little sandpaper to ensure they were smooth and painted with a small paint brush.

Silver GTI, Revo Stage 1, R32 rear bumper, R32 exhaust, R32 rear lights, ED30 front splitter, RCD510, Lowered on Eibachs, open fog grills.

Just done my hubs. I used Halfords high temperature black paint, satin finish. Just used a brush and it looks pretty good, the brush marks don't seem to show.

yeah man that looks cool,,, how long did you have to leave your car on a jack for, was thinking about that and was a bit worried about leaving the car outside for many hours up on a jack, cant get my car into my garage as my driveway slopes down and garage is flat so i would scrape the front floor of the car,,, stupid house builders.
i only have the stupid supplied jack that comes with the gti so i think i will buy a trolley jack
