Cold Air Intake

I've just had a conversation with a well known tuning garage who confirmed at stage 1 a new cold air intake is pretty much pointless.

In particular he said the carbonio and carbonspeed are really designed for non turbo charged engines......Now I'm completed baffled as I thought from the info on here that posters generally thought they did make a difference to their gti's.

He said using a better panel filter (ITG) would be a better option rather than the full intake kit as that will only really come into play with stage 2.

I'm confused.com

Ok I can't give a comment on a turbo car, however been running an ITG Panel on my R32 for a year then changed to an induction kit Neuspeed one.

The ITG in the standard air box was much much better, revved more freely, with the Neuspeed it feels as if the cars holding back a bit until mid range.

I am now thinking of going back to the panel or maybe the new forge kit, which is enclosed in its own air box.

I have a panel filter in mine and it has given me a few BHP gain (as well as improved throttle response).

A custom remap will make better use of a CAI, than a generic remap. Generally an intake will give you gains in the higher rev range.

The chap here has exactly the same spec & remap as mine except he has an intake:

He got +10bhp over mine because of the intake.

Like he said a custom map will benefit from the INtake, whereas a plug n play map won't benefit much

On my stage 1, using before and after runs, I gained 5bhp and 33lbft. This was using Statllers RR.

Who told you otherwise?

I would feel bad if I said but they are based in Essex!!

The local indy specialist i use has a spare forge panel filter and said I can have it for free when I get my remap done! so I will take that.

I was going get a carbonio or carbon speed intake too but i'm not sure it is worht the £200 odd quid now.....

A carbonio wont really give you any gains over a panel filter as it still uses the standard air box, the only benefit a slightly better flow to the panel filter. Its more about "engine bay dress up". Definetly not worth the £200 IMHO
