What Tyres are you using on the GTI?

The stealers have said my tyres will need replacing shortly, I have only ever had mid range ones and am now looking for performance ones.

So was just wondering what you guys would recommend? Thanks.

Running some Conti Sport Contact 5p's and very pleased with how they are performing, done about 1500 miles since they were fitted.  :happy2:

Latest Pirelli p zero has just won the group tyre test in EVO magazine. Tyres all tested on a front drive hatch too..

I'd go for those if I were you.

Vredestein ultrac sessanta's on the front (put these on as they had great reviews) and Dunlop sp sport maxx's on the rear (these were on the car when I bought it).

The Vreds have been great. Much better than the Kumho ecsta's that were on there when I bought the car :happy2:

What speed rating in the tyre do you guys go for and how important is this?

Also for those of you who buy online where do you go to have them fitted and how much does this cost? Thanks

Mine are Y. Most performance tyres will be rated for high speed. I'm sure the recommended tyre speed rating for the GTI is W or Y.

I bought mine from Black Circles with fitting included (at a local garage).

Hankook Ventus V12's here. Thought I would give them a go as VRSAlex runs them on his Octavia. Just over £80 a corner from Camskill. Fantastic wet and dry grip. Also comfier and quieter than what was on before. Get the thumbs up from me.

I've got Michelin PS3's on mine and have been great but are one of the more expensive tyres.

Personally I would get a tread depth and check your tires before doing anything as dealers seem to recommend this alot, well they do in my case,  as nearly every time I've been there I've been recommended I need new tires as they were low but I had over 4mm all round, once I even had virtually new tyres on the rear and they recommended new ones  :stupid:

I have Pirelli P Zero's, really good tyres, good grip when you need it! I would recommend them  :happy2:

I'm running Hankook Ventus V12 Evo as well, very comfortable quiet ride, excellent handling both wet & dry, I'll be replacing with the same.

Im running goodyear eagle f1 assy's and think they are excelent. Loads of grip and feel. Helped me get some good times at santapod last weekend  :happy2:

I suppose they need to look like they are actually doing something in terms of 'safety checks'. I've had the same experience with my GTI and my old mans golf. Always new tyres needed...I don't drive a RS3 at the limit week in week out FFS :grin:

The dealers also said that my rear tyres were fine in terms of tread depth but that they were slightly bumpy and I should consider replacing them along with the front ones...
They also said my brakes only have another 5k miles left on them and that they will call me in a couple of months to arrange fixing them...I am going to go to an indy for brakes though.

I am like many of you dubious about what dealers tell me so am glad I am a member of this forum to get advice  :happy2:
