Fuel enquiry
« on: October 28, 2012, 09:12:30 am »
Morning all.

Only had my GTI a week and love it, when I picked her up last Sunday I went straight to the nearest garage which was BP and filled up with their super juice (thinks it called ultimate) and I've been really impressed with how she pulls but yesterday I filled up at tesco on their super unleaded but ever since it fills like the car is holding and doesn't seem to pull as well as it did last week and I'm putting this down to the fuel change, has any one else found this out?

I'm also getting a quote for some eibach springs and seriously considering a stage 1 map so I can out do my mate in his R32, big thanks to this site for not keeping her standard

Thanks all

Bp ultimate is only 97 octane shell do vpower which is 99octane and Tesco do momentum which is 99octane but not all Tesco sites do it some do just super unleaded

I run mine on Tesco and see a huge improvement over normal fuel. If you are remapping your car I would highly recommend running high octane fuel

I used Shell V-Power and Tesco Momentum interchangeably with no change in performance, only a small increase in mpg with V-Power. Plus it takes a tank or two for the engine to adjust to the new fuel, so think it's unlikely that's your problem?

BP super didnt impress me.  The best pump fuel I have tested back to back was V-power, but when tuning customers car who are running Tesco 99 I am seeing just as good it not better results.

I think its momentum i used at Tesco but if not it was definitely super unleaded which I plan to use in the future, but your probably right the car could be adjusting from BP 97 octane to tesco 99 octane, I just seems strange that it feels it holding but I did run the tank emptier than I would of liked so hopefully it hasn't sucked any grit out of the bottom of the tank though the engine. Maybe the car will run better in a few more miles.

Nice vid, that edition 35 looks incredible if only it was a 3door.

I'll be trying out V power next little bit further a field but I'll give it a try, i used to run my old 09 Astra Sri 1.8 on it some times and felt better for it but wether that was a mental thing or not felt like it run better.

Thanks all

Your workshop looks VERY clean there Nick, no engines and turbos lying around haha! Who sorted that out before shooting !

Also thanks for the video, I was looking for the new comparison test and couldn't find it!

Have you changed your username? And have you got time to sort me a remap?

There is a fuel filter to prevent foreign matter getting into your engine.

^^^ It is excellent. I asked for a map which closely followed the original power/torque graph. Extra punch in all the gears so great for safe overtaking.
There is lots of info on this site about tuning, have a good read and decide if it's for you.

Yes there's so much info I'll either go with REVO or Jappasport because they are closest but I'd like it to feel torquey at low revs but still have plenty of go through the rev range .

V-Power!  :happy2:

As far as the Stage 1 Remap goes, I've had 3 now over my two Mk5 GTi's.

One PDT carried out @ Storm Developments, Aldermaston, 1 of Storm's own maps on my new Laser Blue, and now I'm on Revo Stage 1, again done by Storm. The only reason I went Revo was because I went in for a free upgrade of Storm's own software, but my ECU would not allow it to over-ride the existing map, and the car refused to start! My onl option was to go Revo, because their tool wipes the software completely rather than trying to over-ride it. Is the Revo better? Probably marginally, the PDT and Storm maps are excellent, but the Revo is no way double money better! £600 as opposed to £300!!  :fighting:

I'd have stuck with PDT or Storm if I could have, but my ECU was having a hissy fit that day. I suspect VW did something to it when I took the car in for fitting of new door trim. B'stards!  :fighting:

Fun Golf: 2016 mk7 R DSG 3 door. Work Golf: 2015 mk7 1.4 TSI GT ACT 5 door.
Gone but not forgotten : mk2 Golf GTI 16v, mk4 Golf V6 4Motion, mk5 GTI Storm Developments Stage 1, mk5 GTI Revo Stage 1, BMW 330ci, Skoda Octavia VRS Revo Stage 2, BMW Z4 Sdrive35i.

Ah i didn't know it was double the price at 600smackers, I was expecting to pay about 500 for a good remap but 300 sounds more appealing but jabbasport and REVO are the closest as I live nr King's Lynn, Norfolk.
