FMIC
« on: November 02, 2012, 06:05:53 pm »
I have been toying with the idea of getting a FMIC (one day) but I cannot justify spending stupid amounts on a designer one when there are ebay specials going for 1/4 of the price.
Is it possible to fit a 'universal' core to the standard piping? I.e one if these-

Thanks, I know I am being tight but, I cannot see how buying a branded one is going to give me £400 worth of improvements- unless you can say otherwise??

If your going to get a cheap one id look at the ebay copy twintercooler set up, like this...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-MK5-MK6-GTI-FSI-JETTA-2-0T-A3-TURBO-TWIN-INTERCOOLER-KIT-Blue-/350598944319?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item51a153563f

For the money the kit actually doesn't look that bad!

The money is in the core . Crap cores are a waste of time as they will cause bigger pressure drops and the Mickey Mouse hose split , trust me I've seen them . I had a autobahn inter cooler a few years ago and it bent @ 17psi of ko3 boost

You get what you pay for - with a product like that you can pretty much guarantee that the quality of the core (bar/plate design) will be minimal. I'm with gillm on this one.

Ahh oh, so would I be best just staying as I am instead of getting a cheap one, as there is no way I will be saving up and spending how ever much on a branded FMIC. Or would an s3 cooler be a worth while investment as a middle ground?

FabFreddy has one for sale, it's a plastic end tank one, but it's not supposed to make much difference, but for that price you can;t go wrong...

Otherwise theres darkside developments that do the s3 intercooler(alloy end tanks) for £262 delivered with the clamps/bolts required...

Or there's currently a THS Revo one for sale in Parts section...
