Fire away Rich...you still complaining about your calipers? Look alright to me in the picture you're being a little precious over....in fact bloody good

PS It was a light hearted attempt at humour, should have considered the audience first perhaps....but lets hear it dont hold back    :booty:

Im not being precious. I dont have a problem with people using my photos online, providing they dont butcher them but instead leave them in tact.

And yes... the calipers did look superb (when they were on my living room floor)  :happy2:

NB... standard repertoire of wheels cleaners used. Nothing acidic.

Mmmmmm... crackle glaze... not really what i had in mind...

... the Edition 30 clips are in virtually immaculate condition, not a crack or chip in sight!  :innocent:

Feel better now rich?.....you forgot to watermark them...does this mean I can use them myself to inform people what can happen if you use untested products????

Can you also recall for the listeners what my proposed resolution to the problem was....fact was you didnt comeback to me, never heard a thing...

And Ive only got your word you didnt use anything acidic directly....could have been a combination of products or something youve driven through....on the basis that you havent had powder coated calipers before and at that time I'd probably done 100 sets without issue then people can come to their own conclusions. Yet still I offered to help

I sometimes despair at the amateurish attempts at detailing people expose their cars to, they want blingy calipers but chuck all sorts of crap over them in combination...you dont see people do that to a bonnet do you.

Anyway...for the record I offered to repaint them at paint cost only taking the hit on my time, dipping and stripping costs and reassembly....but didnt hear back from you yet here you are two years on coming out with bollox such as

If you want me to do some moaning... I will do!

Which admittedly irritated me no end  - very little point in making veiled threats or allegations without spilling the beans Rich.. ive nothing to hide

Offers still there for the repaint just pay the paint and I'll cover the rest like I always said I would. Its not an unfair proposal rich...ive nothing else to add, if you want to  book them in PM me

No... but you can use them to show people how the crap powder coat has faired up after 40,000 miles.

Ahh yes... I must be lying....

Like i say... nothing has been put on them other than the standard rep. of cleaners that every one else uses.

Yes you did.... and I did reply. Did you seriously expect me to pay another 2 sets of labour to get them taken back off and put back on, for an issue that was not my doing?  :stupid:

You can blame me all you like pal, but the evidence is there for all to see. You can make excuses all you want.... "something youve driven through"   PAHH, don't insult my intelligence dave.If i had driven thought something so caustic to make the powder coat crack (which i highly doubt it would) then my wings and doors would be equally poor condition.

The only solution that is plausible is for you to send me some new calipers and carriers, and I can get them swapped over all in one hit. Its simply not feasible (both now.. and 18months ago when i told you about this the first time) to have my car off the road with no brakes.

I wasnt actually ever going to bring this up again... but you poked me...  :signLOL:

Dave... PM me with a solution please, one that wont involve me having no brakes on my car whilst you 'get around' to refurbishing them.

The amount of cracking and crazing is unbelievable...

2/2/2009 - Q: What is crazing and what causes it? We clean and then send printed (screened ink) aluminum sheets, 0.018 inch to 0.030 inch thick, to a powder coater. This is a polyester powder coat applied at 1.5 mils to 3.0 mils thick. When the sheets are returned, we machine them and run them on a belt through an oven at 280°F to remove "blushing.” Unfortunately, the parts are crazing. To stop the crazing, we have to run the sheets before forming through the oven first. Sometimes, we have to run them through a hotter oven at 400°F. Any idea what causes the crazing? My understanding is that crazing is small hairline fractures in the powder coat. If we ship parts that show crazing to our customers, and they are applied to vehicles, are they susceptible to corrosion? M.H., Munich, Germany
A: Maybe. If you’re lucky, it will not go to bare metal, but I would not bet on it unless I looked closely at the cracks under a glass. It can depend on what is causing the crazing. It can be caused by too much heat. It can be caused by surface tension between two coatings that aren’t compatible, and on occasion between the substrate and the coating. The 280°F oven temperature is almost a 100 percent overbake of the powder. I wouldn’t think that would cause the material to craze, but you never know. You should check for compatibility of the two coatings with one another. One way you can do that is to use cold rolled steel test panels. Spray on the base coat, cure it out, apply the screening or the second coat, cure that, and then take a look. Use a glass to be sure there aren’t miniscule cracks. I could also make a case for the thin sheet aluminum becoming "active" during the bake cycles and causing the coating to move when it doesn’t want to. The aluminum won’t corrode, but it will develop a patina coating where it’s exposed to air. More important, if the cracks are to the substrate, you now have an entry for moisture to get under the coating and cause it to blister or lift. The aluminum will be safe, but the part will look bad and cause complaints.
