RNS510 Sat Nav Problem
« on: November 21, 2012, 09:32:47 pm »
I'm having a fairly serious problem with my newish RNS510.  Its been installed for 3 weeks.
Driving home 3 nights ago from Heathrow airport the sat nav suddenly went mental and decided i was around 2 miles from my actual destination.
Ive been out since, last night and tonight and it has not rectified itself.  The pointer on the screen continues to meander across the screen through parks and rivers etc etc.  It is doing my head in.

Currently my car is outside my house but thinks it is 4.2 miles from the 'home' destination.

Is there are 'reset' button on the unit?

Can anyone help?

How many satellites has it locked on to?

Go to Map, press Map again to bring up the screen overlay and select GPS Viewer. You need min 6-7 satellites to get a lock oN.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

I would have said GPS receiver... to reset either press the left and right arrows with the star button till the screen goes blank or under set up there is a factory reset...

Thanks guys.... so 2/8 is pretty appalling then??

Is this solely down to where the GPS receiver is situated? or the quality of the receiver itself?

Cheers

Despite leaving the GPS antenna in the same spot, it would intermittently (maybe twice a year) lose the satellite connections and struggle from 5 -60 mins to reconnect.

Should be able to hold 'SETUP' button and the 'secret' menu appears after the a Radio setting screen IIRC.....

Should then have a list of SW and HW versions etc.

Hope that helps

interesting, where it says ft on your menu it is blank, mine says 275ft ? I assume that means 275ft above sea level ?
if so it aint picking yours up I guess, you can factory reset everything or individual systems radio etc in the menu under system, have you tried that ?

As Eddie said change the position of the antenna.

I've always fitted rns units and put the antenna on top of the unit towards the back as its magnetic so it never moves and always get great signal
