engine problem
« on: November 26, 2012, 06:33:29 pm »
My friend has a 1.6 golf mk5 2006 petrol automatic. He just recently brought the car and today he experienced something strange where he turned on the engine and it switched off again by itself. He then tried again and it started up fine. Two hours later he was parking his car and again the engine just switched off when he parked.

Has anybody experienced this before or knows what the problem could be?

Thanks in advance

Faulty throttle body is a possibility, also have solved this exact issue before by doing a throttle body clean and reset.

You need VCDS (Ross Tech) software to do the reset - a local vw specialist should do it for pennies  :happy2:

You have to remove the throttle body to clean it. You can buy the cleaner from Halfords etc. I don't think anyone on here has done a how to guide. . .
