Is it worth getting the TX-P42GT50 over the TX-P42ST50???

It looks a lot nicer, but I doubt the picture is a great deal better. What's the difference in price?

TX-P42VT30B  :happy2: all specs on web. You should come and see it after the Thu meet, even if to give you a more informed opinion.

ST, GT, VT... Is there much difference?

I'm I right in saying that GT and VT use the same panel?

You can do a comparison on Panasonics website.

When I was looking for mine I scoured the interwebs and eventually settled on my local Panasonic stockist.

They were the cheapest and it also meant that I got a free 5 year warranty.  :pomppomp:

Try John Lewis.

You can't go to currys and not play the "ask staff difficult tech questions" game.

Always good for a laugh, though my wife doesn't normally see it that way!

Rich I have a Panasonic Viera TX-P42G20 (plasma) which is a slightly older version. The picture is stunning, the tv has been faultless for the 24 months or so that I've had it.

It has USB recording, which is a great facility, I can record in either Freeview HD or Freesat HD or normal SD quality on to a hard disk and the quality of the stuff when you watch is is as good as live. The only downside is that you have to watch the channel your recording or 'tape' two channels at once, because it doesn't have twin tuners. Nevertheless, with this model I can switch between the freeview & freesat facility and watch other stuff

Panasonic plasma gets my vote & money, got mine from John Lewis with a 5 year guarantee, but have a look at these guys http://www.soundandvision.co.uk

So.. back from currys. Looked at the Panny P50ST50B and the  L47DT50B

LED is more vibrant, Plasma seems more neutral. Apart from that and the physical design I cant tell much difference.

I wouldn't even contemplate based on seeing 2 TV's in somewhere such as Curry's.

Settings turned up to max in a brightly lit environment. THe best you can hope for is that it's fed with a blu-ray and not it's own Freeview via communal aerial.

Come round and have a look at mine next week as I'm off Rich and then make a decision.  :happy2:
