Anti roll bar bushes!
« on: November 28, 2012, 01:44:54 pm »
Hello all,

i wanted to replace my mk5 golf gt tdi 2004 (54) anti roll bar bushes....

I have been told that i cant just buy the bushes. I have to buy the entire anti roll bar? I believe that some mk5's do have this stupid kind of anti roll bar. How ever i went for the plunge and bought some polybush anti roll bar bushes....

took my car to the garage to get them fitted and when they came to do the job they told me they couldn't split the existing bush away from the bar.

Has anyone else came across this problem? or am i going to have to replace the entire bar?

heres a pic of my current anti roll bar bush:

thanks for any help on this irritating subject lol

ant.

The bushes are fixed around the bar. The anti roll bar needs to be removed and the underside of the captive nut needs to be drilled so the 2 parts of the clamp can be removed.

Cheers for your reply! Do you know if I can use the powerflex bushes? Or know where I can buy the correct bushes atall?

Thanks for your help!

No need to drill them out they have x2 torq type bolts which you can undo on both clamps. Its better to remove the whole arb as fitting the new bushes can b a bit tricky. Have done this job recently as I had knocking noise from the rear and turned out to be my arb drop bar links.
Oh yeh main dealer told me I needed to by the whole kit when replacing rear bushes which is absolute rubbish, I just bought bushes, bolts and drop bar links x2.
Hope this helps.

The back is different to the front.

I'm pretty sure that's the only way to do it is drill them when you have the anti roll bar off

Cheers for your replies.

So can the powerflex bushes I've bought work with these clamps that are already on the car?

Cheers fellas

Brilliant

So the only difference between these clamps are that they enclose the bush all the way around? And others just have one clamp?

Thanks again  :happy2:

ARBs vary in diameter. You'll need to confirm the size first. I spoke to a Seat dealer for mine who confirmed mine was 23.something mm (23.7 maybe?)
