Andrew every comment that comes from you is always negative, every damn one of them, if you have a chip on your shoulder get it said on snip it  :stupid:

Don't be a dick. I suggested that your post might have been better posted as a review. As far as I am aware there is nothing malicious in that suggestion. Robin commented that it wasn't written as a review and I agreed. My tone was purely due to not being aware of the "rules" regarding posting a review.

As for staying away from your threads, I have on several occasions posted helpful advice in relation to questions you have asked, so wind your neck in.

this is MY OWN PERSONAL opinion of the rns-510-h or any letter I guess after the b version
don't get me wrong I like the 510 unit, way better than my previous standard 300 unit
but
-my cheap tom tom picks up better routes which the 510 just doesn't see, even major side routes sometimes
agreed
-the road curving up to say 300 metres is better on my tom tom
Agreed - especially the new ones
-with being low down as you say the 510 is not in your line of vision
Disagree - ALL fitted navs that would fit in the same space would be the same - so not specifically just the RNS unit
-the radio navigation guide is not great
Tend to agree - some of the wording is cr4p - Hull comes out as ool!
-it is not dab - I know there is one coming out now
Agreed, but not a dealbreaker
-when you use the media button for cd player and eject the cd it starts playing music automatically from my phone via Bluetooth lol
Why wouldn't it as it selects either radio or another connection automatically - a good idea really and better than silence
-when you are listening to the radio and put a cd in it automatically goes to cd as it should - but - it misses the first couple of seconds of the disc whilst the unit changes from radio to cd player ?????????
Dunno about this as I never listen to the Radio LOL
-my traffic function does not work (seemingly subscription service )
Funny - mine works and I don't subscribe to anything!
-unit has very limited audio amendment features
true - especially when compared to an aftermarket unit, but an aftermarket unit will need extra functions for aftermarket audio set-ups
-radio text is next to useless although I know that is down to the radio stations
See previous answer about not listening to radio
-the 510 is veeeeery expensive
Absolutely agree if you are foolhardy enough to buy it from a dealer or as a new car option
-the 3d nav viewer is very basic
Yes as it is based on old technology now
-the audio outputs should be a bit higher than 50w per channel
?? I thought they were 20w per channel??
-it should have a tv tuner for a two grand unit, man it should make coffee at two grand
agreed
seems like I hate the unit doesn't it lol
there are good points though
-it looks very oem
-it is good for integration for things like mfsw / mk6 camera etc
-the dvd player is superb quality screen
-the mk6 camera screen is also very good but that's more down to the £350 I shelled out for a mk6 camera
-and mmm, it lights up red like the other controls in the car

also it is very difficult to upgrade the audio on it due to the connectivity, most other after market units at a fraction of the price will let you do this, with the 510 still not letting you go over 50%-60% volume depending on type of music especially drum and base etc without distorting the quality, nobody is getting say 80% volume on any type of 510 unit without some major upgrading of the speakers, the oem speakers / tweeters etc cant handle it.

sure I will pick up a lot of flack from 510 lovers by this thread but so be it, the above comments are my own personal opinion and I do somewhat like the unit but if I didn't need it for my rear view camera and mfsw I would change it in the future whilst it still has re-sale value.
what is it vw charge for one of these things £2100 or so, obviously I didn't pay that but even so that's a crap load of money
biggest disappointment is the nav, on my £50 tom tom I have been using for years I can predict the oncoming curves on a country road and reduce my speed accordingly for blind corners driving into them, on my 510 it is way more difficult as it is nowhere near as detailed no matter even if you put it to it's maximum zoom of 150 yards, it just does not show enough detail.

so there is my opinion of the rns-510-h all singing all dancing multi function unit
let the opinions roll in

See in bold :happy2:
Golf R gone.

This would have been better posted as a review, rather than in the General section.

....Except that Scott hasn't structured it like a review:  http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,438.0.html

Is there an Audio section on the site?
thank you, I have not structured it like a review for 1 reason ( exposure ) if I structured it as a review it would get bumped to that section and would get lost, I am trying to get peoples opinions here, so Andrew parker never assume I don't know what I am doing and yes we have entered debates and helped each other out on other listings but you are polite one minute then throw silly comments the next,

I'm still at a loss as to how it was a silly comment. As I said, I was unaware that there was a format that needed to be followed when writing a review. As such I actually thought your post was written as a review and might receive more structured and meaningful replies posted in the reviews section. How is that so bad, and what makes you think I assumed you didn't know what you were doing?

you got am immediate response because you come onto a thread and leave a comment that has nothing to do with the thread and offer nothing in regards to the thread, dude it aint the first, second or third time you have came in and barked your 2 cents worth, if you have no constructive comment regarding someone's query maybe you should think twice about trying to be some kind of thread admin clerk.
did I take you the wrong way ! maybe, just tired of you being nice then being the opposite,,,,,, you keep teasing a dog IT WILL bite you eventually.

Ive never used a built in nav that comes close to tomtom. I've got tomtom on my iphone and it leans perfectly in the DIS between the clocks when i need to use it.

Ive got an RCD510DAB as i wanted an OEM look and DAB.

I dont think the RNS or RCD are 50w.. way less... but ive now got an audison bit ten DSP feeding an amp that runs everything. If you want decent sound an OEM.. this is the only way. Otherwise get an aftermarket headunit.

In answer though.. yes it is damn expensive compared to the RCD for a sat nav system that isnt THAT great. Only really get the RNS if you want OEM and dont want tomtom leaning on your dash.

pretty sure it is 50w per channel on the 510 but someone will confirm this soon I guess
