Milltek Cat back Perfromance?
« on: December 01, 2012, 11:01:24 am »
What difference if any would just a Milltek Cat back resonated/non resonated exhaust make over a standard system? Just considering as can't really afford a full TBE at the moment.

Looking at getting a re-map in the new year, currently have a Forge Twin take on car and just wondered if it would be worth getting cat back/full system before re-map?

very little tbh mate.

After the cat, there's very little restriction, so not much in the way of performance gains to be had. It'll make a bit more noise tho , but I'd wait for the full TBE.

I wouldn't let either sway you from a re-map tho. Once the TBE is on, the map could be adjusted to suit  :happy2:

With K03, Revo Stg1 and an ITG intake, my car made 255bhp on JKM's RR. The intake made about a 15bhp difference on the same day, on the same rollers.

Never got to do the same test with TBE tho, but at the last JKM RR day, various K03 cars with map, intake & TBE were pulling 260bhp - 270bhp.

What about the other way 100cel/200cel cat and larger downpipe to original exhaust? Would that be worth a purchase?

My car standard made 197bhp at JKM ad since having my Quad milltek cat back I got 199bhp at the last JKM meet so in short you don't get much if anything.

If you can't afford/justify a TBE then maybe do the pre cat delete to get some more flow along with the cat back

That option will give you the gains  :happy2:

For best performance & efficiencies i would wait to get them both - if you're looking to purchase 2nd hand, just wait til the right one pops up on here.

If i were doing it again and was buying brand new, i'd give Nige at BCS a pm and get something sorted through him - the quality of my Milltek has been pretty shocking! Cracks all over, but thankfully all sorted by Alex at AKS  :happy2:

Don't want to go down the pre cat delete route (mot emissions). Perhaps I should wait until my original exhaust starts to blow (65k on 2005,still going strong), then I will have good reason for a new system :happy2:

you won't fail emissions because of the pre-cat. Just make sure the car has a decent run on the way to the testing station  :happy2:

I have spoken to Nige on here, very friendly and yes I think I will be buying from him in the future. Interesting comments about the quality of the Milltek, I have heard other people say the same!

I can honestly say that I won't purchase a milltek ever again - When my car was dropped off with Alex, even he couldn't believe the amount of cracks and shocking welding.....

I am tempted to speak to Nige regarding replacing my whole TBE system - but it is a lot of cash for better quality pipework and a bit more of a growl (over the Milltek), and i'd rather put the cash towards new clutch & diff or some cloth buckets (if I can ever find a set)

Our GTI is going to Cobra Sport on Monday for them to develop a full system for the GTI. 3" turbo back with the option of sports cat or de cat and resonated/non resonated. They will be the cheapest 'off the shelf' system for the GTI I would have thought.

We sell loads of their systems for Vauxhalls and a few for Fords as well and the quality is always spot on. If people want a full turbo back system I would wait and see what we have to show in the way of pics and videos in 2 weeks when we get it back.

Will be very interested in this, what sort of prices are we looking at?

Please don't quote me on this when they come out as it could be a bit more but I am expecting in the region of:

Non res de cat £640
Res de cat £670
Non res sports cat £790
res sports cat £820

So as far as I know that is the cheapest on the market. There will also be a cat back option that will be in the region of £370 for non res and £400 for resonated. I'm excited by the prospect of them to be honest as quite often we get people turning their nose up at the Milltek price and understandably at times to be honest!

Please do not confuse the fact they will be cheap as them being rubbish. I have NEVER had a Cobra system fail on me yet and I get no more fitting issues with them than any other manufacturer. After sales support from them is great as well.

A group buy is an option once we have tested it for a few weeks.

What with you and Nige at BCS with there powervalve system should have Milltek shaking in their boots!

Or perhaps they might reduce their prices and or up the workmanship (have heard some bad things about quality of Milltek). Competition in the free market economy can only be good for the customer :happy2:
