....Be my guest (with or without attributing it to myself, RedRobin).

But I suggest you reduce the size of your dildo-men sig before the Mods remove it for being oversize. TC posted a thread about sig image sizes and their size restrictions.  :happy2:

Will a worn follower make any noise?

^ Cam follower porn for perverts?

Mine was 'Safe' and didn't need changing after 100,000 miles but JKM advised we may as well change it anyway while my APR HPFP was being installed. Apparently with an APR pump the cam follower might need checking more often.

Whereas it's true that not everyone on a car forum knows what they're talking about (except me of course), it's also true that some VW dealer staff don't have a clue. If he has only seen one instance of a failure you have to ask how many tuned cars has he serviced? And especially with an aftermarket pump.

When I changed mine in the summer it looked exactly like no.3 :surprised:! That was 100k and full vwsh, drives fine now but does go into limp mode every once in a while if you really go for it in a high gear. But is fine in lower gears.  I didn't feel any wear on the cam when I changed the follower though.

There has been a few failures on here so i don't believe it's nothing be bother with  :surprised:

It's mainly the yanks that have them fail, which is generally because they have poor oil and the petrol is only something like 93RON so the pump is working hard all the time to make decent power  :happy2:

Stage 3 only happens if you have an early A camshaft.   Only goes domed shaped if the cam is f*cked.  So I would say your cam is fooked and the follower will already be dead again.  You need a B cam and a new follower.  Get it checked asap.  Is your gti an early one?

I changed mine at 99tkm's. It was barely worn, stage 1 from the pictures.. I changed the pump also and there must have been something cooking there, because the engine is now a lot more quite.

I've just changed mine after doing 25k of Stage 2+ running and it looked a little less worn than that. Thought it best as a preventative measure! Better safe than sorry for the cost!

Just changed my follower. I've had the APR pump on for the last 19k but there's still lots of life left in the follower.

What's the part and fitting cost for this at a dealer and decent indy respectively?

I worry about de-pressuring the fuel system enough and doing this myself...

Probably half an hour at an Indy, main dealer will tell you it doesn't need changing  where you based?

What gaz says.  I charge 30 mins plus the follower is around 28 quid iirc.

I would ask the mechanic for a letter stating that there are no cam follower issues and if it does fail then he will fix the engine for free seeing that they refused to change it for you.

^^^ They didn't refuse to change it...it was a 'there's no point' response. I didn't insist and if I had I'm sure they would do it. In fact I'm booked in for a diagnostic check on Friday so I'll ask for a quote to have it replaced. I might mention some of the comments from this thread...!
