The Volvo is a good suggestion but I have a v50 d5 and in a few years plan on replacing it with a v70 d5 or t5 so don't really need two Volvo estates

V6 4Motion all day long out of this list. I had one for 3 years. You can pick up a cracking example with leather, sunroof and under 80K for £2,000 - £2,500. Great all year-round car for the UK. Just make sure you test drive it on wet grass to be sure 4wd is all in order.

Fun Golf: 2016 mk7 R DSG 3 door. Work Golf: 2015 mk7 1.4 TSI GT ACT 5 door.
Gone but not forgotten : mk2 Golf GTI 16v, mk4 Golf V6 4Motion, mk5 GTI Storm Developments Stage 1, mk5 GTI Revo Stage 1, BMW 330ci, Skoda Octavia VRS Revo Stage 2, BMW Z4 Sdrive35i.

Yeah, would be a preferred choice if a decent one is found. Would it be a good idea to take a mate who has vag.com to plug it into to see what faults there were, if any, or would stuff like faulty 4wd not show?

Loads on Autotrader. I'm not sure if VAGCOM would pick that up or not. Worth doing that to pick up any other faults though. The old wet grass trick is a great way of checking 4wd traction. Always go early in the morning for the dew if it's not raining.

Which Saab 9-3 Aero?  The T5/T7 engine ones from 1999 - 2003?  OR the T8 sports saloon from 2003 onwards?

The later ones had a better chasis, strong brakes and good engines... they map about the same as the GTI to around 240-250bhp on a stage 1; standard clutch seems to start slipping around the 300lb/ft mark though.
Heavier than the GTI, iirc ~1490KG.

Things to look out for include signs of snapped front springs (very common) - some interior plastics very cheap, thank GM for killing the brand.

About a 54 plate 9-3, think they look nice but it'll just be trying to find 1 with decent mileage. My mother in law has an x plate 9-3 2.0t which aint bad but its auto. Only done about 45k though so may hang on in the hope she gets rid of it soon-ish. Just a heads up, she had trouble last year with the mot and failed on the bulk head ( which I found out for her was a common problem) and saab was gonna charge her £1400!! But after doing some homework they done it for free. But you may want to check on it if you look at 1 :happy2:

I found one a clean one too full history paid 1k for it was the piston heads shed of the week but it belonged to a guy who was worth a few £ so was trying to get the car on pistonheads sotw so priced it at that. Great car if not a little thirsty but still rare these days

Mods yes but way too many to stick in this little box

Straight from the left field - a friend of mine will be selling her car after Christmas - a 4.7 V8 Jeep Grand Cherokee.  Leather, CD, A/C and only 50k miles.

Shadow blue DSG 5 door with leather, sunroof, 18" Monzas, MFSW.
Full list of mods:  Seat inserts and a VW bottle opener.  Each worth 20bhp.
