Missing Changing Gear?

i think i will just have to use the paddles more. I think the main reason why i find it hard is because i always drive with my left hand on the gear stick. I still drive around with my left hand on it when im just in drive mode.

I find it very weird having both hands on the wheels unless im hitting a sweeping bend at speed. I think that why i find down shifting with the paddles very odd and not natural.....

Hopefully over time i will enjoy it.

....I was exactly the same and I still tend to drive with my left hand on the floor stick when driving a conventional manual - More quickly ready to shift a gear.

But the DSG paddles have broken that habit when I'm driving any car with paddles. The great thing about the Mk5 GTI steering wheel is that it's ergonomically shaped so that your fingers naturally rest in the right position.

What further helps gear shifting on DSG are paddle extensions - Mandy sells them, PM her 

These are mine (expensive TID's before Mandy's were ever available...........

Hey, yeah i got those of Mandy a few weeks back. still the same issue, just doesnt feel normal / relaxing having both hands on the wheel. Thats why i have been using the trip-tronic a bit more. Again though, it feels a bit neutral, there should be a click or something that give you the feel that you have just shifted....

....That's exactly what I don't like about the GTI's tiptronic floor shift - There's no feedback such as even a click to relate to and it's partly why I never use it. Also it's Up and Down a gear direction seems the wrong way around.

The other reason is though that having the paddles at one's fingertips while at the same time having both hands on the wheel is far safer when driving very hard, IMO.

If you think positively about DSG and put aside any specific expectations I think you'll enjoy it more and it will become fluid and second nature to you. Personally I now would never consider owning another car without DSG or an equivalent system with flappy paddles.
