Take as long as you want with the updates, i have a comfy chair.

These cars look so cool to me.  I went to the Lotus festival this year at Brands and there must have been 25 of these all the same colour all parked together.

Came across this racing version too at the Gold cup this year. Just love em.  :jumping:

Top cat please keep me posted on any further meets/events of the old lotus's as I'm sure we would try and make a few.

Mk1's have such character I prefer them to the mk2's but at more than twice the price there only a dream lol

....I saw Jim Clark race one of these at Silverstone quite a few times in the 1960's, usually having a good old ding-dong with Dan Gurney in a 7-litre Ford Galaxy!! The Galaxy would hammer the Cortina on the straight bits but the Cortina would get back on the corners - It was always great to watch.

I did a pen & ink drawing of Jim Clark's Lotus Cortina at the time - I wish I could find it!

So a little more progress the head is almost ready to be rebuilt this is being sent to and engineer to complete so it was time to take the block out and strip it down

we took the block out 1st then the prop and gearbox these cars are soooooooo easy to work on its a pleasure

the gearbox will be rebuilt in good time

quick photo of the underside this will all be shot blast and painted once the spit arrives

time to strip the block down

it took a little bit of effort to remove the sump

and once we had i found a nasty suprise a bent con rod as you can see on the left

dad was pretty happy at this find as it now means new uprated rods and pistons haha any excuse

no other damage big ends are good the crank will be checked and reground if needed buy our engineering guy anyway im suprised it ran as well as it did with the rod so bent
