I've got this one.

http://www.workshopping.co.uk/product/trolley-jack-15tonne-aluminium-rocket-lift/RJA1500/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=shop&utm_campaign=feed

I realise its a bit more than the ones you've put up. Can't fault the Sealey build quality and the twin piston rocket lift works a treat.

....That looks as if it would cope very well with very low cars (mine has only 95mm road clearance). Do you know if it does?

Capacity:1.5tonne
Minimum Saddle Height:85mm
Maximum Saddle Height:445mm
Maximum Chassis Height:145mm
Length:625mm
Weight:20kg

Why is the 2.5 tonne version cheaper?

Model No:RJAS2500
Capacity:2.5tonne
Minimum Saddle Height:94mm
Maximum Saddle Height:468mm
Maximum Chassis Height:150mm
Length:592mm
Weight:26kg

In comparison to the one above. Its partly made of steel so heavier and not as low entry.

.
I've just had a phone chat with Workshopping about those lightweight jacks and the saddle height at the jacking point is the critical measurement.

The guy I spoke to was extremely helpful and not at all a hard-sell but more interested in a customer getting what they actually need. He reckoned that a Mk5 Golf would be fine on a 1.5 tonne rated jack especially as the jack wouldn't be lifting up the whole car!

EDIT: Actually I've just read that its max chassis height is 145mm so I guess it wouldn't work on mine.

Where are you jacking it up from Robin? Off the sill should be fine as it doesnt go that far in to get to the jacking points.

I was told a 1.25T jack would be fine on a MK5 Golf as again, it isnt lifting the whole car.  :popcornsoda:

....Always safer to use the jacking points. I would have to venture into my car's batcave with my tape measure to check it [says he who actually doesn't need to buy a jack and can't really afford it anyway].

got these jacking pads on mine

better safe than sorry when crawling underneath, then lower onto axel stands under jacking points.

I know nothing about jacks lol, are these any good?

From Lidl £19.99, 3yrs warranty:

http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg//SID-7FF48947-0BD4AD7B/lidl_uk/hs.xsl/index_35171.htm?offerdate=&ar2=&ERR=noservice

From Halfords, £21.99:

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_217011_langId_-1_categoryId_255207

Both 2 tonne.

Lidl one looks like a toy to me im sorry.  Doesnt get my vote.

Basically the reason this topic was started was because my current jack, similar to the halfords one doesnt fit under my lowered car.

The halfords one will do a standard height GTi or most other cars not 4x4 (truck)  fine  :happy2:

Mandy... those ones really chew the chassis of your car up, avoid.
