Who had both Revo and APR and willing to share experience?

APR do free upgrades to stage 2 and 2+ which is good for saving money in the long run.

Hedge is running a 2.0TSI so not directly comparable id say.

Both are quick, both are switchable, both are top end maps with masses of happy customers.

Ultimately performance wise id wager there  is very little between them unless your expecting 0.1 seconds difference on a 1/4 mile strip or 5hp difference on a dyno to be the deciding factor.

TBH not really, they were both stg2+, but you have the traction with the S3, I think the APR map at the time was more grunty bottom end which would light up the tyres on the ED30, Revo has a bit more top-end. But bear in mind I'm going back to 2008 for the ED30 APR map and they used my car for development so things may well have changed since then. TBH I don't think you would go wrong with either, but have you thought of a custom map from the likes of R-tech, I've been tempted myself even though I'm happy with Revo(and R-tech are a revo dealer) just to see if ther is any difference out of curiosity

If I remember rightly, I had Revo fitted to my Edition 30 by my local tuner but I was expecting it to have been done on the RR they ave but when I collected it and ask what the figures where lie and where was the printout so I can have a quick look at the graph I was god I had to pay another £66 or it to be put on the RR for a printout.

Not sure if anywhere else is like this but it's just my experience so far and I'm more than happy with the map but it's the only map I've had on my Golf.

He didn't specify a car in his original post. Just so we can get some objectivity on this what, or who's, car are you running round in at the moment.

He's already said golf R enginein post#5 and since its a different engine and turbo I'd say its not directly comparable.

As you know im driving the APR golf R, but read back my posts I've been pretty objective. I could have said I wouldn't bother with REVO full stop because their map on the 1.4tsi has caused loads of forum users massive issues and as usual its not their fault but I chose not to recommend either tuner because as above its not relevant to the 2.0TFSI KO4 so I didn't mention it

Just to clarify my car is golf gti and the engine needs replacing for those who did not follow my break down thread!

I will be ordering golf R engine and it will go onto my golf gti so it will be FWD not AWD. I have all supporting mods to go as far as stage 2+. Not sure I want to with what happened to my car but bought gti as a used car so always a big question regarding the past despite full FVWDH.

On K04 gti my local tuner did a custom made map but since this opportunity arises I would fancy something else for a comparison

Aha, finally.....No to both!

I'm running GIAC software, and VERY happy with it too. I'm sure that the Revo was good too which I ran at stage 2+ also on the R, but it didn't float my boat for the upgrades I had in mind. Personally I think APR has some very good maps, but I'd never use them again as the network support in my area isn't there and in the past they have been "sporadic" with customer support. My local tuner who I trust implicitly with my car only does Revo and GIAC. Revo are a very good company with a lot of history in the UK and a good support network. I've had a few issues with them regarding map availability and their flexibility to help the customer with custom mapping and this was my reason to go with GIAC as they do offer several custom and tailored maps. The only downside to GIAC is that they are primarily based over on the west coast of the USA and so actually getting the custom maps takes a bit of extra effort due to the time difference. However their customer service has been excellent with me and so long may it continue.

If APR wasnt so close i think i wud of gone REVO as Alex @ AKS is a REVO dealer

I was considering switching to REVO for a while (when APR presence in the UK dwindled a bit).  This was because I felt there was more to be had from my car.  But since they returned and setup HQ in Northampton support has been great, the updated map was much better.  Very happy with my car atm.

Like Andrew, if APR didn't return and start rebuilding their Uk dealer network I may well have gone REVO via Alex at AKS tuning.

I have a few different files on my car, switchable via my cruise control stalk. 
Revo also offer multiple files (you just have to buy a device to plug into your cars diagnostic port, these can be had second hand for 50-70quid I think)

Difference for me

APR Upgrade is free (From Stage1, Stage1+ or Stage2 and then Stage2+)

Like Mike says APR offer cruise control swapping of maps (currently not available on my car but will be very soon)

When you do the maths with REVO add on the SPS device and Upgrade prices its alot more

I've had both. I now have Revo as APR ditched my tuner of choice and I wont have APR again.

....Yes, I think we both have the same tuner of choice and so I would stay with that tuner too.

However, for someone else I am of the opinion (without direct experience of APR) that the APR remap is worthy of serious consideration as an alternative.

It's a good point you bring up though about the importance of the tuner and not just the map software itself.  

I'm no expert but I dont think Revo requires a "tuner" (not sure about APR)- you see SO many garages offering Revo maps these days, all you need is a laptop, a cable, Revo's software and some instructions that revo provide and any Thomas, Richard or Harold can be a Revo "tuner". You upload a base map and then tweak one of the 3 settings as per the instructions they provide - or if possible you can log it (not all places do - Revo @ GTI inters dont). Not really "tuning", more like reprogramming.

Seeing how many people offer this service, I doubt it requires any special training etc and you really dont even need to know anything about the engine, as troubleshooting is fairly basic and probably included in the instruction booklet.

If you want to get the best out of it though, your best going to a garage that knows a decent amount about the TFSI engine, especially as remapping highlights any weakness in the ignition & fuelling systems etc.

As Gaz suggested above if you really want the best out of it, with no constraints, a custom map is the way to go (and will be cheaper than a big brand).

....I wouldn't be happy to just let any Tom, Dick, or Harry load a Revo map on my car. That is why I drive 90 miles to JKM - They are expert on the 2.0T FSI platform of my car and can do much more than just load the map. They have been able to diagnose and solve any problems and also fine-tune and advise according to my hardware performance mods as they have evolved.

It's a holistic package.....

And a very personal service!..........................



If I was using APR I'd go to APR HQ Milton Keynes.

If I was using GIAC I'd go to Statller.
