....

I'd also consider adding the WALK (Whiteline castors) and changing the bushes to the other side of the wishbones while you're at it. It's an inexpensive but good mod by all accounts.

:happy2:

I also considered these on stock suspension for the extra control/position of the front geometry but after consultation with VWR due to the fact the KW Clubsports also give camber adjustment I opted for just the suspension.
I also spoke to AmD re running the WALK kit and KW3's and they advised that I should be aware that they had recently seen a KW'd Golf with WALK and one the driveshaft's had popped out causing some damage. Their diagnosis centred around it being too low and geometry issues causing this....I for one would go with VWR advice having known their knowledge of what works and 'why' it works.

The Clubsports are very very good but they will need some slight adjustments as I want VWR to advise on road and track settings so I can simply adjust to my own preferences being guided by their knowledge. I may mark the settings accordingly.

Looking forward to seeing the dynoplots .

....Crikey!! That's worrying about what AmD saw! My car has low set VWR-KW-V3's with WALK. I'm inclined to think that the setup must have been fairly extreme to pop a drive shaft, if indeed this was the main cause. I'm having difficulty seeing how the WALK would be such a big factor.

As everyone only knows too well, I very much follow VWR's advice. They fitted my WALKs and I asked their advice before doing so. They reckoned that the alteration of castor was so slight that there were no risks and they fitted the WALK at the same time as my KW's. I'm not on the lowest V3 setting though - Something VWR advise against. They did advise that I upgrade my bushes on the other side of the wishbones though - Just to better balance the normal stresses.

I do now remember VWR telling me that I wouldn't need the WALKs if I had the Clubsports - We had been considering them but I decided that I wasn't going to be wanting to keep changing my settings for track and that a 'fast road' setup would be fine for my occasional track use - It certainly felt totally capable at The Ring.

The Clubsports are clearly the ones to go for if you are a regular keen trackie wanting to adjust camber but the V3's won't put you to shame.

Do you run the 10mm spacers on the rear?

I find on haed cornering a slight rub...may need a tweak or raising.

Do you know your fast road settings?

Do you alter the bump or rebound settings for comfort?

I will look at both options for road and track.

I've only got 1.25 neg on front at mo.

Hi Ian,

I don't think I can answer many of your questions! But I'll do my best.

- I don't run any spacers (I was advised against it by AP Racing).

- The slight rubbing can most probably be solved by pushing back the inside arch linings screw fixings. I've not had any more rubbing since this was done (by VWR).

- I've no idea what my fast road settings are. Mark Farmer did them when at VWR.

- I find my setup totally comfortable - Hard but not at all harsh and wouldn't know how to alter my settings. I feel in contact with the road and that's how I like it best.

- I know that Mark tweaked a bit of extra camber on the rear to help keep it in. You can also do this to the stock suspension apparently.

Well I had a trip all the way from Somerset to VW Racing for a consultation and set up tweek on my KW Clubsports.

What a helpful and knowledgeable bunch of guys who know their business.

Awesome who fitted my Clubsports done a great job fitting them but we just ran out of time for the fine tuning so I opted to have a chat with VWR as they are slightly closer and have first hand knowledge of this set up. They also impressed me on the phone with their advice and general enthusiasm.

Having arrived this morning with my son we were greated by Matt who was extremely keen to get down to getting my car how I wanted it.

Awesome had already set the height but after setling the drop was too much for the roads around where I live as I found out on Exmoor. The rear NS was catching on a clip under the arch. The bump compression was not right either as it was slightly harsh.

The first thing VWR told me to do was drive their demo. Off I went around the local roads around Milton Keynes....roundabout city! Good place to try out their set up which uses nearly identical set up except the spring rates are slightly different. What a compliant ride...much softer than my car which was a revelation as I was ready for a harsher ride than my car.
The diff and ARB's were certainly felt....a lovely combo. Unbeknown there is a torque limit set in 1st and 2nd which took me by surprise. I also noticed a big difference in the power delivery with it being  ED30 spec engine using a full Milltek non res system and the appropriate mapping. The delivery on my car felt more progressive due to the torque limiter and earlier oomph being delivered on a smaller OE exhaust.
The VWR brakes were amazingly powerful but I needed getting used to their delivery....slightly fierce :scared:

Back to VWR and Matt wanted to take my car out to assess the Clubsports and was truly impressed with the APR delivery.....he commented saying it was one the best mapped car's he'd driven which certainly made my day! Pwerful, smooth and torquey!
I certainly am pleased since the APR HFP and FP map was fitted.

Into the workshops and after 2 tweeks to the compression damping and the rear raised I took it out for a blast. What a difference. So much smoother now...better than the OE set up in fact. Total control and so much better on entry and exiting bends...no rubbing and far more compliance. Out of the bends it is so much better laying the power down with my camber settings and a more flexible set up...had some real fun on the old roundabouts. :driver:

Car is well sorted for now. Ride home was so comfortable even the motorways.

The Clubsports will be superb for track...can't wait.

A very refined package.

Diff and brakes next!

Mine have settled now after a few miles and the ride over bumps has got very crashy. which it wasn't for the first 100 miles or so.
I find myself swerving around pot holes now.
Small price to pay though for extra grip.

Glad your happy.   :happy2:

A shame m8...perhaps we can all make it to the Awesome RR day or another meet.

Backing the compression damping makes a huge difference Top Cat as does raising it....better ride than stock :happy2:

Yes your right i think it needs tweaking, As i mentioned it was fine for the first 100 or so, I agree felt better than stock. They asked me to pop back down and get it redone after a while, so i think i need to sort a visit soon.  :happy2:

VWR certainly know how to set up a car. The only thing I've had to ask them to do since doing my suspension several thousand miles ago is the wheel arch screws. Now, I get no rubbing at all.

Yeap the rears certainly drop quite a bit...the softer compression will definately smooth your ride out...it did mine!

Brilliant bit of kit though....well worth the money...super control and makes the chasiis so biddable at the limit if you get there.

Will take a very very special car to give a clean pair of heels on must A-roads! On track it will embarass many exotic stuff
