Chassis notch?
« on: January 31, 2013, 11:58:04 pm »
I know what it is... But, I don't understand how it gets you lower and it sounds pretty risky! Heard about it a lot but never really understood how it helps?

Ohh dear lord.....

Basically you chop a notch out of the chassis leg, so that the drive shaft doesn't foul it.

It anyone... DARE get a chassis notch on here, Im selling my car immediately!  :fighting: :fighting:

....I know how you feel, Rich.

And I can't imagine that an insurer would honour a claim on a car with a chassis notch. Just because loads of people do it doesn't make it a wise thing to do.

It sounds scary to do to a MK5 GTI  :scared:

Few of my mates with snow plough low Polo's and Lupo's talk about doing it.
They only deal in abused arches, broken splitters and smashed oil sumps.

It was enough to make me forget a chassis notch immediately

.
Cars with notched chassis, over stretched tyres, and super slammed are not for me. I think that the Golf in that link is spoilt by it.

I expect drivers of such cars to wear dropped jeans exposing their underwear and a baseball cap worn sideways and with a dead flat peak - The style of a certain type of teenager.

But..... Each To Their Own

Ive got one as only needed when you go low to stop your driveshafts hitting the chassis. The car still drives the same but I will say if this isnt done by an pro it could cause serious issues. I see some people do them in their drives on edition   A proper job will cost you £150-£200 to be cut, welded & sealed properly

I'm 32 a father of 3 and don't run over stretched tyres and only sit the subframe on the floor when parked!
I don't wear caps or jeans without a belt, but I had my 'notch' done at the garage that fitted my 'air' and could guarantee the workmanship to the highest level. :innocent:

Apparently you now need an IVA test done if you do this so could also be quite costly!

Did they guarantee that in the case of a head on collision that the chassis leg wont fold in half?
