08 GTI DSG juddering under standard acceleration
« on: February 05, 2013, 10:58:40 am »
Hoping someone can help me with this, emission light came on for a second on Saturday night when driving the car normally in automatic mode, but it went out before I could nearly see what one it was.
The car now is doing something different in that when it hits 2,000 rpm and i'm working up the gears there is a a judder between 2 - 2,500 rpm but from there it 's fine and will pull the whole way up the rev range.

Problems are with driving the car in D mode at 2k rpm, stopped it and took off in sport mode and there is no problem with it anyway up the rev range. Also stopped and drove it with the paddles and it's fine as well?

Any1 got a clue what could be up with it? It's worrying me that it it's something major, car only has 40k miles on it.

Have you had a DSG service yet as its ment at 40k.

I'm sure if you get your dealer to so the DSG service , they will do a basic settings check on the DSG after the oil change I'm sure.

Yea DSG was done last September with the main dealer at a pretty penny I'll say as well.

some people were saying it could be a problem with the cat but that wouldn't cause the judder would it?

Have a look on the VCDS register thread, to see if someone is local to you so they could scan the car rather than taking and paying adealer £50 just to tell you the fault history stored which in VCDS it's logged.

Thanks all for this, car went into VW and they've replaced the ignition coil which they said was the source of the problem.

Just on a side note, I've seen postings about cam followers going around the mileage my thing has on it, should I get the garage to do it whenever the car is in again with them?

If you do a search on HPFP tappets you will find lots on getting them changed and the damage a failed one will cause!
I had mine done recently by an indy garage but ex VW Mechanic. His view was that although VW don't say so, changing them should practically be a service item. It's not expensive compared with the repairs that ccould be needed.
Also, if you check the threads it is not a bad DIY job. I will next time!

Car back, was just the spark plugs in the end. Cheaper than thought. Will deffo be looking at getting the cam follower done the next time in the garage.

Glad you got it sorted ok.
Spark plugs seem to be another item VW don't recommend changing often enough. I was told by one stealer 'We only change them at 50k unless there is a problem'.
Oh great. I'd rather spend on a more regular change and NOT have a problem!
