GTI vs Deer.... I lost!
« on: February 07, 2013, 05:57:26 pm »
Had the misfortunate to hit a deer on the way to work this morning, thankfully I was ok but my poor Mk5 hasn't come off as well. The front offside bumper has a split across the middle, the fog light is now loose as the casing around it has shattered and all of the bottom grill/intake has been smashed in.

Can anyone more technical advise as to how easy this is likely to be to repair and a rough estimate of cost?
Planning to avoid using the insurance as can get parts at trade price from a friend who works in Volkswagen but not sure if it's a job I can myself or need professional assistance with.

Thanks

Matt

Same happened to me last year, made a right mess of the front!

Had new bumper, fog light and also had my bonnet and wings re-sprayed at VW and cost around £1000 I think, did a top job but I'm sure you could probably get cheaper through a good independent.

I hit another one last week but thankfully due to snow I wasn't going very quick (hit the first one about 60mph) so no damage whatsoever thankfully!!

Bloomin deers.....they've got a death wish!

Hope you get it sorted mate.

Was the deer badly injured after this incident?

Not sure if this was referred to me or the OP.......but the first deer I hit last year definately dead, the one I hit last week at low speed got away with a limp!

If I hit any more of these then not sure if you've seen the film The Long Kiss Goodnight but I'll be mercifully breaking their necks in future if they damage my pride and joy again!!
