^^they was extras.

Vw changed as you say the glass from blue to green, less speakers, aerial moved from the rear window to the roof, foglights went from projectors with h11 lamps to reflectors with hb4 lamps, very early cars had open fog grills, the rear boot badge/handle changed to a 2 piece 3d badge (also the shape around this on the boot slightly changed), AXX engine changed to BWA, revised cam.

Other bits I'm not 100% sure if they was options or if they changed is the leather on later cars was black and not anthracite, the RNS was available on really late cars iirc. I think leather became standard on late cars like it did on the mk6

This is not all strictly the case. My original '05 GTI has a roof mounted aerial, has reflector foglights and doesn't have open fog grills. Doesn't have the aluminium ashtray that's been mentioned either. None of this stuff was even offered as options to me either.

When's your build date tho? My brothers sounds like the same as yours (April 05) I think and mines the slightly earlier build which has the stuff yours doesn't and no roof aerial (but came with closed fog grilles)

Don't forget, guys, that when posting that yours is a "05" car its build date, and therefore specifications, are not necessarily the same as the "05" (or otherwise) on the UK registration plate.

From memory I'd have to say build date was probably around April '05 as well. If that's the case, they changed their specs super quick because the GTI had only been out a few months by that point. Real penny pinchers!

....April 05 would mean an 05-build spec and wouldn't change until ~June 2005.

Folks advise never to buy the very first builds of a car because there will invariably be issues to be remedied which aren't discovered until the car is out there getting driven by customers in the real world. It's the same with non-automotive computer software.

I that that early MK5s also had 3 courtesy lights in the front and rear, as opposed to 2 lights each in later cars.

My 55plate Mk5 has 3 lights in the front and rear, but I think it has green tinted windows so perhaps there are some crossovers in spec.

My 08 ED30 has 3 rear courtesy lights. Beginning to sounds like it;s just luck of what's in the VAG parts bin lol.

My roof aerial is in the roof but I have blue tints ? My car is a 06 reg .
Was the change over done all in one go or did vw change it bit by bit ?

When I went to Inters a couple of years ago the 4 cars I was parked with had various different bits on. I can't remember exactly but it was stuff like one had aerial but projector fogs, blue tints with a roof aerial. iirc the cars with the bit of old and new were between 06 and 07 plates iirc

The noticeable differences for me on them are the roof aerial (looks much better without one) and the green/blue glass. I much preferred the green glass, a lovely colour on any coloured car IMHO.

My 05 had Blue Glass , 10 Speakers but no alu ashtray cover , it also had a roof aerial. I think from memory it was regd in July 05. My 08 has the green glass and 8 speakers but everything else is the same - apart from maybe the courtesy lights inside , I have to say I didnt know they had changed so Im unsure if mine would be different between the 2 cars.

My memory is not as good as I thought. I ordered the car in march '05 and took delivery in July. Where can you find the build date though? Can't see this anywhere in my paperwork.

....I only know by build week date because I communicated with Wolfsburg via my VW dealer at the time.

I've got an 08 ED30. I've got 8 speakers, did the early GTIs have more than this?

I don't think the late models have leather as standard tbh.

I might be wrong, but wasn't one of the spec upgrades as part of the Ed30 spec to have 10 speakers?

I'll need to re-count first thing in the morning - this is bugging me ha ha.
