Front bumper repairs...
« on: February 17, 2013, 08:52:57 pm »
Looking at a GTI bumper that has a minor crack under where the fog light grille fits, is this a straight forward enough repair to do?? just trying to weigh up if its worth buying rather than paying more than twice the price of a undamaged one.

Think it depends... Not sure if you can weld the plastic, had my ED30 rear sprayed the other week and there was a crack near one of the corners looked like it was damaged taking off. Got round it by staples and rivets... Sanded down filled and then a fibre glass mesh over the back.... Couldn't see it after painting. Then took a few of the location lugs (or whatever they are called) out and it all went together nicely...

I've just had buy a full new, primed bumper and upper grilled this evening...after crashing into my wall this afternoon.  Would be interesting to know how much it would cost to have resprayed. I've registered on 'whocanfixmycar.com' this evening and should have a few quotes back in the morning.

I tried to park and smashed my front splitter/lower bumper into the kerb. School boy really.

Looks like it is only chipped paint so quick re-spray but was told I could get part smooth and sprayed colour coded. Probably doesn't help this.
